We had the good fortune of connecting with Katia Parodi/ Fashion Designer Parodi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katia Parodi/ fashion designer, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my business was rooted in my passion for sustainable fashion. After moving to Miami post-pandemic, I faced the challenge of breaking into a new market where no one knew my work. It was tough, but I was determined not to give up. I decided to create my own opportunities by launching my brand, KAP, in 2023. The journey of setting up my atelier, sourcing sewing machines, pattern-making materials, and other essentials in a completely new city was daunting. However, my commitment to fashion and sustainability kept me going, and now my first collection is available online through our website and social media platforms.”

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

We don’t just sell clothing; we also offer a service that focuses on creating garments designed to help women elevate their confidence. Our pieces are crafted with cuts that highlight and flatter the female figure, ensuring that every woman feels empowered and beautiful in what she wears.

What I want the world to know about KAP is that it’s more than just a clothing brand. It’s a statement about how fashion can be both stylish and sustainable. My story is one of perseverance and dedication to creating a positive impact through fashion. I’m excited to continue this journey, evolving and growing KAP while staying committed to my core values.

As an immigrant, you’re often told that you’re here to work as much as you can, in whatever job you can find, and that starting your own business is incredibly difficult. And yes, it is. But if you have a dream, go after it without letting others’ words hold you back. You only need to remember two things: believe in yourself and stay persistent

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Based on my brief experience in Miami, I would suggest a weekend city tour that begins in Downtown Miami, including the Brickell and Design District areas. Following this, a visit to Calle Ocho would provide an opportunity to immerse oneself in Miami’s rich cultural heritage. The tour could then proceed to Wynwood, where visitors can admire the iconic murals and explore the vibrant street art scene. To conclude the day, a visit to South Beach would be ideal, offering time to enjoy its pristine beaches and ending at South Pointe, which is particularly breathtaking at sunset, especially when the cruise ships are departing nearby.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family and husband , who have been my unwavering support system throughout this journey. Their belief in me, even when I doubted myself, gave me the courage to pursue my dreams.
