We had the good fortune of connecting with kayan Fernandes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi kayan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
During the Pandemic, mostly everyone was in a mandatory lockdown. Being that no one could leave their house, I thought of an On-Demand service that could be provided to a client. I myself have been recording professionally for over 6 years, with two singles out on ALL platforms (OfficialKayan). Since I’ve always had music as a passion and profession for over 6 years, I decided to invest my last funds in a Cargo Trailer.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I always knew that I would work for myself but just never knew what it would be. Still currently working as a server/bartender I have made my decision that this will be my final job.
I’ve invested In myself and in others multiple times before in the past. Gathering all the experience from what I had gone through I made another final decision which would be no more “friends” in business. What I mean by this is that I was tired of people either expecting a handout or a “discount” because they were your friend. I then knew that if I was going to do business with someone, I would be subcontracting them. Having to overcome the loss of many partners and friendships, OTW Studios will be the beginning to a great opportunity!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So in Miami the best local areas to visit would be Wynwood, Brickell and Miami Beach. Out of the three, I mostly like Wynwood. It’s a chill vibe with multiple bars, rooftops and clubs to visit. Parking is easy when not super busy and area is small enough to park and walk around. There is a lot of street and and graffiti so make sure to be picture ready.
So if we were able to drive up north of Florida, I would definitely take my friend to visit a Natural springs. Some of the best that I’ve been to are Ginnie Springs, Kelley Park and Wekiwa Springs.
South Florida is so diverse in foods that you will find mostly anything you like. Just take a look at yelp and you should be fine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So to start off, I am not even from this County! So my first shoutout would be to my mom for bringing me into the land of opportunity. Originally from Salvador, Brasil, I arrived in Miami for my first time back in 2001. Growing up in Miami without a dad I had two step dads that showed me somewhat of a way to be a man. So shoutout to the step dads out there putting in the work,
A huge shoutout to a good friend ishy who showed me the music game back in 2007! We went from recording in the back of his house to performing for Juicy J and Currency in a crowd of over 600 people!
Another shoutout to Miguel a good friend who help put all the lighting for the studio! And also Dannel, who gave me a huge hand with the labor on the studio!
Also can’t forget the two producers I’m currently working with, Bandit and ADSR. Big S/o to them because we are about to start creating some great projects!
