We had the good fortune of connecting with Kedar Maddula and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kedar, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The core philosophy at Wunderhaus design studio is to make Handloom textile popular and trendy amongst the youth and also to bring about the story of these beautiful Indian handwoven fabrics to a wider audience. A lot of our time is spent in onsite research in rural India to introduce the incredible diversity of handloom textile craft and also to fish out lesser known handloom and help in some way its conservation.
We are a clothing brand that makes handloom look cool, fashionable and we speak in the language of the present; a niche we bridge.
The primary focus of starting the business was to make more people aware of the beauty and worth of handmade textile in India, and the youth of India are our primary focus.
What should our readers know about your business?
The main focus of the business is to make the weavers of India, popular amongst the youth of the world. Also to create a system where the weaver gets his due credit and also becomes better off economically and more aware of the present market needs.
I have always enjoyed the process of research and development in handmade textile and making clothing collections with them that appeal to the youth of today.
Somehow it has worked right from the start and has been an amazing journey without much hindrance.
I guess we work with a niche and our visual story telling and our easy trendy comfortable collections are likeable by many.
One you have a clear intent for your business and your brand, and thats not necessarily money wise intent,
I think everything falls in place beautifully with some hardwork and reaching out as much as you can about your intent.
We want to be known as a trend setting brand for making hand made textile and craft a massive trend across the youth from around the globe.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Would definitely start with a visit to the main town market . Best place to introduce someone to the local food, smells, culture. Over the days will visit some galleries and shows across the town, some road trips to hikes and visits to some historical places nearby
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say all the incredible textile artists and weavers who make such gorgeous textile, wearable art! They often do not get their due credit.
