We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisha Butler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keisha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There were a few things that acted like the catalyst to me starting my own business. The first and most important was being able to own my time. Being able to spend time with my kids and family and be there for their school activities will always be number one for me. Second was financial freedom. In 2018, I was working for a big name company within the beauty industry and received very little commission off of products, services and packages that we were required to sell. One day I realized that I knew I had the skills to run my own business and ready to make that jump from being capped out on my earning potential to taking it into my own hands.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my career in Esthetics back in 2009 when I graduated from skincare school. I learned my skills from a well known and Florida based company in waxing. They taught me how to wax and care for clients and pretty much shaped me into the person I am today. I have had many trials and tribulations within the last 5 years. In 2018, I attempted to open my own suite and was met with adversaries that resulted in me wasting thousands of dollars. Moving back to South Florida in 2019 was the best decision I made for my family and I. I started off in a room in a hair salon and it was dreadfully slow for me. Things started to pick back up in January 2020 but of course the world shut down. Fast forward to January 2021 and I found my former salon. I hired a nail tech and hair stylist and it was going great. I started doing my wax trainings , lashes and wax services. I recently sold that salon in March of this year and now in a suite until I can find the perfect place that will house my Wax Academy!

Is anything worthwhile ever easy? No, of course because everyone would be doing it. I’ve had so many ups and downs over the last 5 years but I keep going. I’m not the type of person to stay down. Entrepreneurship isn’t easy AT ALL but it’s worth it to me.

I believe what makes me stand out is that I am really here for my students and clients. I’m not a fly by night and take your money type of person. I genuinely care. I cannot stress enough that people want to be around others who actually have their best interest at heart. This absolutely ties into my brand of elevating natural beauty. I don’t want to make you an entirely different person. I want to help someone become a better version of themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh I will go through all the counties.

Palm Beach would be my favorite Thai Place in called Peppermint Thai

We could head down to Broward and hit up Lulus for some fun day drinking right on the strip in Ft Lauderdale.

Finish the night off in Miami where everything is exciting. There’s absolutely never not interesting people lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to thank my babies Carter, Eddie and Stella. Without them I would have not became a mother and desires more for my own life. So thank you for unknowingly pushing me to become a better person.
