We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Montero and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keith, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is everything. Starting my career after dropping out of school was a risk, moving to NYC without any real connections was a risk. Even falling in love is a risk. I realized long ago, if it scares me, then it must be the direction I must go in.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For now, my art is still in a raw phase. I’ve been working commercially for almost a decade now and the survival aspect of the business has been more of my focus until lately where I feel the need to finally develop personal work. It’s beautiful to do what you love for a loving but the living isn’t the true manifestation of my creativity.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anytime anyone visits, I make them walk! Walking in NYC is literally the simplest pleasure. I’d take them a walk over the Williamsburg Bridge, then to Soho and grab a slice of pizza. Eventually hop on a train to Central Park and just continue the days eating at every favorite food spot of mine. The food in NYC is unrivaled. So many please to choose from.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to my parents & family for always supporting. Too many other people to shout out but mainly my Motiv Outdoors family, they’ve become the support group that’s helped me better myself outside of the professional aspect of my life and realize that I am still a human that needs improving everyday.
