We had the good fortune of connecting with Keith Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Keith, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
As an athlete, I understand how a properly trained player can have the upper hand on the field. With this in mind I have a vision to give potential or current grade school athletes the opportunity to learn and fine tune skill sets that will increase their chances of success on the field. My business does not intend to replace current trainings they may be receiving but give a more individual touch for specific target areas. Since I was 19, I have been working with grade school children and adolescents in summer camps and other affiliated programs. What always stood out for me is their love for sports but lack of specific skills to take them to the next level. So I told myself, I can teach them all these skill sets, and make it my business commitment to try matching their passion for the game with their potential skill sets.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Flex Speed Performance is known for having One-On-One training with clients. We always want to have each one of our clients to get as much attention needed. The best way to have that is to have a personal coach. Getting to this point was not easy lol. This started with me losing my job to the pandemic last year and I had a lot of free time to myself. I did not know how to officially start my business, all I knew was that I had a passion for teaching this skill sets to young athletes. I got my very first client in August 2020. I did not get another client until December of 2020. I was not making a lot of money at all, but I kept going because I seen the progress of my very first client was doing. His parents would come to me and say I am doing a great job and love the progress they were seeing in their son. Hearing those words really pushed me to continue doing what I loved. Now I have over 13 clients and already hired two employees. The main lessoned I learned from all this is DO NOT GIVE UP. If you are passionate about it everything will fall into place. I want the world to know this is just the beginning of Flex Speed. We are getting bigger and bigger each month. Don’t be surprised if you see us on TV.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best spots around my city is surely downtown fort Lauderdale and South beach. Cant go wrong with either.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to thank God for putting me this vision in me and this drive for the love for sports and helping others. I want to thank my Mom and dad for being one of my biggest supporters since I started this one year ago. Nikeeya Marshall for always being there for me during all this. Without her none of this probably would of happened. ALL of my clients that trust in my skills to teach them proper skill sets in their sport. I want to thank my camera man Bryan Smith, without him my videos wouldn’t have the views it does. And lastly I want to thank my family & friends for supporting me through All this……Kash, Mikale, Hershley, Gevonte, Julio, Jay Curits, Steve, Jason, Alina, Amaya, Jacquarn, Simone, Christine…etc
