We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenny Walker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenny, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since I was young, I’ve always been in love with the way that the medium of music affected me. Every time I hear a song for the first time from an artist that I end up loving, there is always a feeling of wonder and intrigue in their sound that leads to me listening to that song hundreds of times. It’s been my dream to be able to do that through my own song writing and composing not only for myself but for anyone willing to listen. I feel that sentiment is mutually felt with every member of Yearlove.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It’s definitely been a team effort from day one. As we’ve grown, we’ve made many fans along the way that tell their friends about us and support us by buying our merchandise. Our manager, Falon Simmons, has always done a great job of keeping us busy with shows, interviews and other opportunities. The most difficult part of being in a band is building that team around your content that efficiently gets your sound across state lines. We could be the most talented trio in history and write the most amazing songs, but if we didn’t have the right people that believe in it enough to help spread the word, we wouldn’t be any different from anyone else playing. The conventional way of thinking is that you have to meet big industry people to get somewhere, but no one talks about everyone you meet beforehand and the value of the relationships you make with every day people. That network you build over years of playing shows and interacting with your fans is what draws attention to you and what you’re doing. That’s always been our main focus; building our own fan base to the point where touring, streams and merch sales become sustainable on its own.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Nashville is a great place to visit. There’s tons of attractions down here that draw people in from around the world. That being said, there’s a lot to do in this city that you would never know about without talking to the locals. First few nights would be spent partying on Broadway. Tons of iconic bars and great places to eat with live bands and DJs around every corner. You literally can’t escape the sound of music from 1st to 5th Avenue. After that, we’d check out East Nashville. It’s a little pocket of town with super cool bars that range from hole in the wall to trendy. Way more low key than downtown but super cool vibes. It’s mostly original music played in the venues in east so you may witness a performance from the next black keys! For anyone who is a musician, carter vintage, EMS and two old hippies are killer shops that specialize in unique gear and actual relic instruments. The sound of a road worn guitar can’t be manufactured on a mass scale and you can find some pedals and amps from brands no one has heard of but are absolutely amazing. Lastly, we’d definitely check out the exit inn and the end off elliston. While the end plays mostly local and touring acts exclusively, the exit inn has hosted both the local artist in town and triple A acts like Post Malone and Paramore. We had the honor of playing there a while back and it was definitely a highlight for the band. That venue has so much history and has hosted so many legendary acts that it is a must see for any fans of music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Josh Monroe for being one of our most consistent fans and showing us nothing but love! We love you! Tortie from Chattanooga for making us feel like we played Madison square garden! We love you! All of our fans that have bought merch and streamed us on all platforms. We love you!
