We had the good fortune of connecting with Kety Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kety, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in Cuba, like so many people in Miami. I came to the US when I was 13 years old, with my mom, leaving all my family behind. This was the second big “split” I had in my life, the first being my parents’ divorce. Both of these events motivated me to seek my own healing, form a unique sense of identity, and eventually, become a therapist. The skills I’ve gained along the way have been extremely valuable to the clients we serve at Psych Blossom. Our office is located in the Roads and we attract a lot of clients who are also ex-pats, experiencing life transitions, new to the city because of a new job/business, going through a divorce, newly married, etc. I’m proud to say that our therapists are especially skilled in helping our clients navigate these changes. Moments like these are challenging but they’re also an opportunity to discover another side of our identity and inner strength. We pride ourselves on seeing our clients blossom from these experiences.
What should our readers know about your business?
Being an entrepreneur is not easy. You need a lot of courage and a sense of purpose. That’s what I feel has gotten me through. Additionally, I see the impact our work has on clients and that is extremely reinforcing in itself. Aside from that, growth and freedom are two values I hold dearly. When you have your own business, you have to be able to look at setbacks as growth opportunities, remain committed to your purpose, and be grateful for the freedom it affords. Having time to snuggle up with my son in the mornings as I wake him up is a real privilege and very motivating.
I’m very proud of the team we are putting together at Psych Blossom. I’m committed to hiring top-notch therapists who are not only very well trained but who have also done their own inner work. They are able to build real connections with clients and facilitate their healing in a completely different way. I’m excited to see the day when therapy is as socially acceptable as going to the gym. I know I’m contributing to that and it is fulfilling to be part of such a big global awakening.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh, this is fun!!! I’d love to take them around!! Miami is an amazing place and full of amazing local spots. Places I would absolutely take them to are Pinecrest Gardens, the Deering Estate, Cauley Square, Ball and Chain, Cafe Trova, Frost Museum, Lincoln Road, Wynwood Walls, Merrick Park, and of course a little day trip to the keys! For dinner? Where do I start? Vicky Bakery for a cafecito and guava pastelitos! Yum! Some of my favorite places are Shuckers, Montys, La Casita, Juvia, Zak the Baker, Komodo, Osaka, Quinto La Huella, Cantina La Veinte, Miami Slice, Perricone’s, etc. I could fill this whole page…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This Shoutout goes to my mother! She has been my biggest support and teacher (of what to do AND not to do). She’s frustrated the heck out of me but I’ve never doubted her love. I’ve truly learned the value of a mother’s unconditional love in this profession. So thank. you to her.
