We had the good fortune of connecting with KHR!S João and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KHR!S, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
From a young age, I’ve always had a passion for the arts, especially writing and music. I have always been fascinated by musicians. When I was a kid, I would spend my days mimicking the artist I would be listening to at the time. From the creation process to the execution of the song would have me hypnotized. I think it is the best way to get a message across. The voice is the gateway to an artist mind and soul. I decided to pursue an career in music because I realized at a point in my life, that I was not meant to live an average life. I decided that I was going to help the world, my community, and myself.
The people I have met through my career have helped me understand more about myself, even saved me in times I was lost. I grew tired of giving my energy to jobs that were unfulfilling. I’m in the building process of my career, so if I do take a job I do it with intention, and it will always be to fund my creative projects and endeavors.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everything I have experienced in life led me closer to what I really wanted to do, which was be a creative. I was working a 8-5 job at one point, and also doing music at night with my good friend gen.wav. I loved creating music so much, I got addicted to it and did not care at what time I finished. I would stay out late, and have to be up by 7am to go to my day job. I would be falling asleep at work. I noticed I felt the safest when I was creating. That’s why I will forever be grateful to gen.wav for helping me tap back into my self and creativity.

My day job and home environment was very toxic, and I realized at one point it was affecting me mentally and physically. I realized I had to stop giving my time and energy to people and things that did not serve me. I moved out, quit my job, and I do not regret it one bit.

Now, I work alongside gen.wav, at Enigma Labs, an LGBTQ friendly Audio Visual Agency offering Music Production, Audio Engineering, Websites and Visuals. I am very proud of what we have built, and I am grateful to Gen for letting me be part of his team. We have created a catalog of music, network of people, and built our own community.

I am all about inclusivity, community, and love. My purpose in life is to help others see their value and strengths. I want to be able to help and guide as much people as I can while I am alive, and help them tap into their creative side.

My music is a perfect representation of who I am, who I am becoming, my roots, and the places I’ve called home.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
gen.wav, my co-producer, main collaborator and best friend. He has been a major guide in my life and music career. I will always be grateful to him, for everything he has taught me, and the help he has given me.

JO Merino, who I’ve known since 2019. He is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Broward. He always pushed me to continue making music.

Dani Mako, singer/songwriter, and amazing friend.

RiskRunnaRicky, singer/songwriter, a real one, take the risk.

They are all deserving of recognition. We need more people like them in the world. I love them all.
