We had the good fortune of connecting with Kim Beebe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kim, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
This is a tough question. I’ve had to make many decisions in my life that would either contribute or hinder my success; and not just in my business. The one that sticks out the most to me may not be the most obvious, but it’s been the most important and one of the hardest things I’ve done. I started going to Al-anon. A lot of people are unaware of Al-anon and what it is, though most people have heard of AA – Alcoholics Anonymous. Al-anon is for the friends and family members of the people in AA. Alcoholism is a family disease; it affects everyone in the family, not just the alcoholic. It’s insidious. Al-anon is there to help anyone who is affected by their loved ones disease. Once I started going, I truly found myself, and I liked what I found, even though I had so much work to do. I would not have had the courage, nor the strength to pursue my own business (among other things) if I had never found Al-anon.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want the images I capture for people to take them back to a fun, beautiful time in their life. Whether that be from a family session, maternity, newborn, or birth. I aim to capture the raw, real moments during a session and to leave behind the fake, cheesy smiles and overposed moments. I also do boudoir photography as well. What sets me apart is just that; I want real, authentic moments that I’ll photograph and you will cherish forever.

It wasn’t easy to get where I am now. I definitely made mistakes along the way with business decisions, and paid for it later. It also took me a while to find my style and stay true to it, even when people wanted something different. I stumbled and fell, but I overcame all this by getting back up and never quitting. Even when I wanted to. I learned from my mistakes and kept going. I also had help from my husband along the way and a good friend of mine, who is also a photographer. I’m very lucky to have them.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I grew up in a small town in New Mexico, so most people that visit me are from there and have never seen the ocean or alligators. When people come visit I love to drive them up A1A so they can see the beautiful views of the ocean and the huge mansions lining the beach. We also always go to the everglades to see the beautiful wildlife, but mainly to see the alligators. Even after living here for over 10 years, I still get excited when I see them out in the wild. As for eating, I like to take them to Howley’s restaurant if they fly into the West Palm Beach airport. It’s a quirky place with good food and unique paintings on the walls, I believe from local artists. They also have great pie. We also can walk to downtown Atlantic Ave in Delray Beach and go eat at DADA’s. It’s also a cute little restaurant, opened up in an old historic home in Delray. It’s definitely got a unique vibe, and they have delicious food.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Al-Anon. I’d truly be lost without this organization.
