We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Hardiman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“We can do hard things” This one has really hit home in recent months. I read it in one of Glennon Doyle’s books and it has always stuck with me. During Covid I have added to it. “We can do hard things…and we are doing them everyday” To me it means so many different things. Starting a business at age 40 after having an already established corporate career was scary and difficult. I left a guaranteed 6 figure income to start a passion project. Turning that project into a thriving business was a “hard thing”. Being a mom is a “hard thing.” We can talk for hours about the articles written about and for working moms. There is no judgment from me. Every mom has to do what is best for her family. In my business every wedding day is a “hard thing.” It’s an emotionally complex day for everyone involved. It’s a logistically complex day for everyone involved. And yet it is the most incredible feeling to see it all come together. To see two people celebrate love and commitment is such an honor. And to see months of ideas and designs and work all culminate in one magical day is a feeling that I will never grow tired of feeling. Everyday, i just keep telling myself. “We can do hard things…and we are doing them everyday.” It truly keeps me going.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Fabuluxe Events 10 years ago. I think I was having a bit of a “what now” moment. I know my husband thought I had lost my mind. But he never waivered in his support of me. The weddings and events business is very much about relationships. I am so proud of the relationships I have built over the years. They are true and genuine. And some of the people in the events industry are my best friends. And the industry has changed so much in the last 10 years. Social media and the way we use the internet and the way we communicate has completely evolved. And weddings have changed, expectations have changed. Keeping up with the rapid change is always a challenge. There were days I wanted to say “I am done” But after a few moments of self pity, I just keep saying “We can do hard things” My family is my rock. My friends are support. They all continue to believe in me. Fabuluxe Events is all about creating beautiful and magical weddings. But what I want people to know most about our brand is that we are genuine and true. We want to be part of our couples lives forever. We want to share the life milestones with them. We LOVE what we do. And the Fabuluxe Team is a family in itself. Mandi, Lara and Nikki (My Fabuluxe Girls – are everything). They are my sisters. The four of us are FABULUXE EVENTS.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a week to share FL and South FL with my best friend, it would be a crazy ride. I grew up in Orlando (age 9 to age 28)…so we would be spending some quality time at Disney and wearing sparkling Minnie Mouse Ears. But then we would head to my current home, Jupiter, Florida. We would spend an afternoon strolling Worth Avenue. Then we would have a fabulous dinner at Bice. Touring the Flagler Museum is a must. But we would also chill out and hang at Juno Beach and watch the fisherman at the pier the kite surfers. Followed by dinner and drinks at Jetty’s overlooking the intracoastal and with a view of the Jupiter Lighthouse.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This was a tough one. Because during different phases of my life there have been incredible people along the way. When I was working in Commercial Real Estate, I had an amazing mentor. She never let “being a woman in a man’s world” slow her down. She fought everyday for respect and was so skilled and successful. She took me under her wing and taught me so much. And she also taught me to never apologize for being a successful woman. So Thank You to Sheila M. When I started Fabuluxe Events, I had no clue..truly! I was so blessed to me Patrica V. She owned a catering company in my area. She and I just clicked. She let me shadow her at events, she helped reviewed and helped me create my brand and really just stay true to who I am. The events and wedding industry is not for the faint of heart. Yet, she believed in me. And I will be eternally grateful. And honestly, without the support of my husband, son and the rest of my family there is no way this would work. Everything changed. My work hours changed, the way I worked changed, financially we had to adjust (in the beginning). It wasn’t easy and it’s especially complicated with Covid. But they have always been my biggest support. I love you – Pete, Alex, Gannon, Beej, Teetee and Wesley!
