We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Portuondo-Cambon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly , what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Just out of college, I was doing marketing for an insurance agency, and although I loved what I was doing, I wasn’t able to be creative enough with the work since it was a 9-5 job focusing on one specific industry. Through the insurance agency, I committed to doing speaking engagements for local business owners about the importance of marketing and ensuring their business. At the end of each presentation, I would have people approaching me asking me if I could do some marketing for them. That is what sparked the idea that I could potentially go into business for myself. I eventually decided the risk was worth it and forged on with starting my own company in 2014. My main goal was to be able to help clients across multiple industries and to work when creativity sparks as opposed to fixed hours. Almost 6 years later, and with a team of six, I can say I that it has been a whirlwind beyond my wildest dreams.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KP Kreative specializes in responsive web design (meaning your website works on any device), search engine optimization, and digital marketing which ranges from social media management to business advertising. In short, we can help you with pretty much anything to improve your digital presence. This sets us apart because we are able to act as a one-stop-shop for all of your digital needs. We ultimately save our clients time and money by consolidating efforts across the board. I am coming up on 6 years with my own business, and I am very excited about the growth I am experiencing with my team and ultimately for our clients. I was originally a one-woman show, and have been able to expand to a team of 5 dedicated professionals. Each team member brings a unique level of expertise to our business and has helped us to expand our services for our clients. No business comes without challenges along the way. The biggest thing to overcome on our end has just been scaling our growth. We are always trying to streamline our efforts and currently have some exciting things in the works to do just that.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Apparently it is rare to be born and raised and still living in South Florida. As someone who falls into that category, I am very keen on supporting local businesses as much as possible. There are some really great local spots that I frequent: Southport raw bar – great spot for drinks, food, and live music! Tarpon River Brewing – I sometimes work there but mostly just drink and eat here 🙂 Manor Lanes is a great family-friendly spot to hangout bowl, play arcade games etc.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several people, books, businesses, educators, etc. who have helped to get me where I am today. However, there was one person who encouraged me to take the plunge and start my own business the most. Dr. Rick Markson, my chiropractor, would always ask me how work was going. One day during an adjustment, he said, “If you quit your job and start your own business I would hire you tomorrow.” That was what opened my eyes to turning my idea into a reality, and he has been a client ever since!
