We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristie Alicea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kristie, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
One of the most important lessons my business has taught me is to not take things personally and to remove my ego from my work. ABC Fit Collective is a client-facing business that provides a service to people along their maternity journey. When we first started ABC Fit Collective, I did a beta client program where I offered our services to clients for 4 weeks in exchange for marketing feedback. It was during this process that I realized what I thought my clients needed versus what they actually wanted were two completely different things. Working one-on-one with pregnant clients daily reminds me that this business has nothing to do with me and everything to do with the health and well-being of my clients! By removing my ego, I was able to see that if I ask and listen, my clients will tell me what they need and want, and that’s how I have been able to build ABC Fit Collective. Being able to listen to your clients and give them what they want has truly helped grow our business!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
ABC Fit Collective is a virtual fitness platform for maternity, motherhood, and beyond. We help folks feel strong during their maternity, build endurance for birth, and optimize their motherhood journey, all from the comfort of their homes. What sets ABC Fit Collective apart is that when you work with one of our specialists, you are working with a certified pre/postnatal fitness expert and not just a personal trainer. Having worked with hundreds of women during their maternity journey, we know that every pregnancy is a unique experience and one that needs special attention and focus.

After continually being referred to people during their pregnancy and postpartum journey, I quickly realized there was a hole in the industry. Women wanted to continue to build strength, continue to workout, but they also really wanted to make sure what they were doing was not only safe for them but safe for their developing baby too. That’s how ABC Fit Collective was born. It was born out of a need to help women feel strong as a mother and confident throughout every stage of motherhood.

I would be lying if I said the process has been a walk on the beach. With anything new, there are many ebbs and flows, and one of our biggest hurdles was that we started in the middle of the pandemic. That challenge ended up being one of the best things for our business because we were able to make movement accessible to our clients from the comfort of their homes!

ABC Fit Collective is a small business with big dreams. Our goal is to make safe maternity movement accessible to all, which is why we offer one-on-one virtual personal training, a video-on-demand library with movements safe for all stages of your motherhood journey, and fitness programs for your pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. You can get started with your movement journey with as little as $5!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami has so many fun things to do and incredible things to eat! After moving here I have been so impressed by all the delicious food here! Some of the spots to hit would be Uchi in Wynwood for dinner and walk around Wynwood to see all the amazing street art. For brunch, be sure to check out some of the drag queen shows at Palace or R House Wynwood. If you are looking for a more unique date night, the burlesque show at the Faena Hotel in South Beach is a must see!

Looking for a more quiet beach? Take a drive down to Key Biscayne beach just a few minutes away from downtown!
Looking for a fun rooftop in Coral Gables check out Cebada then walk over to Luca Osteria for a delicious dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Working with people before, during, and after their pregnancies, I often hear the term “it takes a village,” and that couldn’t be truer when it comes to creating a business. The success of our business is truly based on the impact we have had on our clients and the impact they have had on us. My parents definitely deserve some credit and recognition in my story. They both supported me and encouraged me to always go after my dreams, no matter how big or small. When your parents believe in your dreams from a young age, it just sets the tone for endless potential and possibilities.
Secondly, I have to thank one of my long-time clients who helped us create and really flesh out the details of what ABC Fit Collective has become. She was an integral part of how our business took shape and how we have continued to show up in the maternity fitness space.
