Meet Kristy García | Founder and Sourdough baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristy García and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristy, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At Krust & Krumbs, baking is way more than just bread. It’s about healing, connection, and community. Every loaf and bagel is made with high quality ingredients, no preservatives, and a slow, natural fermentation process that supports gut health. Because we believe a healthy gut nurtures a healthy mind, our work extends beyond the kitchen. We hope to raise awareness around mental health and postpartum depression, offering food that nourishes not just the body, but also the heart. Through honest, wholesome food, we aim to remind people that they are not alone and that care can be baked into every bite.

What should our readers know about your business?
Krust & Krumbs was born out of my kitchen and my passion for creating food that truly nourishes, not just in the physical sense, but emotionally and mentally as well. Every loaf and bagel is made with high quality ingredients, no preservatives, and a slow fermentation process that promotes gut health. What sets us apart is our commitment to connecting gut health with mental health, and using food as a way to spark conversations about mental wellness and postpartum depression.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Starting a business from scratch meant late nights, early mornings, trial and error, and moments of doubt. Balancing motherhood, mental health, and entrepreneurship was overwhelming at times, but my family, having hope, and the supportive vendor community kept me moving forward. I learned that progress often comes in small, steady steps and that community is everything.
What I’m most proud of is that Krust & Krumbs isn’t just about bread; it’s about belonging. It’s about creating a product that’s honest, wholesome, and rooted in love. I want the world to know that my story like so many others is one of resilience, healing, and hope. And I hope every bite of my bread is a reminder that even in the busiest moments of life, we can choose to slow down, nourish ourselves, and connect.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, we’d start the trip slow and cozy with a great cup of coffee at Pour Bear Coffee Shop in Lakeland. It’s got all the vintage vibes and just feels like the right way to start a Florida adventure. For food, it really depends on the mood, maybe a cheesy slice from Il Forno Italian Restaurant, authentic flavors at Morena’s in Winter Haven, or a comforting lunch at Grillsmith in Lakeland.
One afternoon, we’d stroll through Bonnet Springs Park, because there’s just something about being surrounded by nature that makes you feel grounded. And since we can’t forget the kids, we’d pop into Arrow & Bow Children’s Consignment Store for some fun finds or head over to Lakeside Village for a little shopping and wandering.
For a creative break, we’d spend some time at Picassoz Art Café, painting and chatting over coffee. At night, we’d head to The Pink Piano, a cozy wine bar with live music that makes you want to just sink into the moment. And for some big laughs, we’d take a short drive to Tampa to catch a show at the Funny Bone Comedy Club.
Of course, I couldn’t let them leave without a beach day! We’d soak up the sun at Honeymoon Island, toes in the sand, salty air in our hair, and the perfect ending to a week of good food, good laughs, and good company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey wouldn’t be what it is without the love and support of my family. My husband and my kids have been my constant source of strength, cheering me on through the highs and holding me steady through the lows. I also owe so much to the incredible vendors I’ve met along the way. I’ve met those who have inspired me, encouraged me, and reminded me to aim higher. And I have to give a very special thank you to Pour Bear Coffee Shop, which has become my Sunday home. It’s more than just a coffee shop, it’s where I’ve found community, connection, and the chance to share what I love most. And most of all, I’m deeply thankful for the amazing community that continues to shop with us, believe in us, and help this dream grow.
