We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Krystal, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my own business was deeply rooted in a desire to create something meaningful that reflected my culture, passion, and purpose. I’ve always believed that food is more than just a meal, It’s an experience, a connection to heritage, and a way to bring people together. I wanted to introduce authentic Caribbean flavors in a way that felt elevated, modern, and full of soul, while still honoring tradition.
I also knew I wanted to build something that would outlive me, a legacy. Not just for my family to be proud of, but to inspire the next generation, especially young people who look like me, to know that with hard work, faith, and resilience, anything is possible.
I didn’t just want a business, I wanted a platform. A way to pour into the community through nonprofit efforts like feeding the hungry, giving back to the cities that have supported me, and showing up as a light for others in anyway I can. And while I’m always pushing to grow, whether it’s new seasoning blends, expanding brick-and-mortar locations, driving my nonprofit forward, launching my alkaline water line, publishing my cookbook, or whatever god places on my heart I’ve learned that success means nothing without daily gratitude to God, self-love, and spending time with those who matter most.
So, the thought process wasn’t just “start a business”, it was about creating a lifestyle, a brand, and a movement grounded in purpose, key word there, purpose, passion, and impact.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is rooted in passion, purpose, and people. I was previously the owner of Kekoon Restaurant and Lounge, and today I lead Dynamic Cuisines Food Truck & Catering Company, the newly launched LUME Bistro & Lounge, and I’m excited to soon release my signature cookbook. It’s a personal collection of flavorful recipes that tell my story through food. Alongside these ventures, I’ve created a line of signature seasonings, and I’ve developed a premium alkaline water brand focused on wellness and intentional living. Every part of my brand is built to serve bold, Caribbean fusion flavors while pouring love and light into every experience.
What sets me apart is my bubbly, welcoming personality and the way I connect with people. I treat everyone with kindness and respect, just how I’d want to be treated. I take time to truly get to know my guests, from how they like their food, to what small details make their experience feel personal. If you ask for no onions or want your salad plated separately, I remember. Those touches are what build community, not just customers.
I’ve been cooking since I was young, it’s always been a part of me. Getting here took hard work, long nights, and a lot of faith. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. The most rewarding part is being able to help others, especially through my nonprofit work feeding the hungry. I know I can’t end world hunger, but if I can help one person at a time, one plate at a time, then I’m making a difference. Cooking isn’t just a job for me. It’s my purpose. I believe if you’re going to do something, do it with your whole heart and to the best of your ability. You never know who you’re inspiring or how far your gift can reach.
What drives me is knowing that I’m able to show young people, especially young women and future entrepreneurs, that anything is possible with faith, hard work, and a positive mindset.
I don’t look at challenges as problems. Sounds weird right? But I see them as humps we learn to maneuver over. Every situation carries a lesson, and I try to find the good in it, stay grounded, and choose joy no matter what life brings. It’s not always easy, but it’s about conditioning your mind.
Your mind is one of the most powerful tools you have. If you constantly tell yourself, “I’m going to have a bad day,” or “Why does this always happen to me?”, you’re already feeding into negativity and your reality starts to match that energy. On the flip side, when you speak life into your situation, when you say, “Today is going to work out for me,” or “There’s a purpose behind this delay,” you start to feel peace. (Real talk it works) You begin to shift how you see things, and that opens the door to clarity, healing, and growth.
It’s not about ignoring hardship, it’s about not letting it define you. I truly believe what Philippians 4:13 says:
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
That verse reminds me that I’m never walking this journey alone. With faith, intention, and the right mindset, there’s no obstacle that can’t be turned into an opportunity.
At the end of the day, I want the world to know this: My brand is more than food: it’s love, culture, inspiration, and a legacy. Whether it’s a plate, a product, or a moment shared at one of my events, I want people to walk away feeling full not just having itis, but in their spirit.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend came to visit, they’d get a fully personalized experience created with love, because that’s just who I am. I take time to know what people like, from their favorite snacks to how they take their coffee, and I make sure every detail reflects them. The trip would include starting off with a homemade gourmet breakfast and then of course for lunch a visit to Dynamic Cuisines food truck then dinner later on at Lume Bistro & Lounge. Maybe a trip to the beach for drinks, getting massages, nights at the Hard Rock, exploring Wynwood, spontaneous boat days, or a backyard pool vibes with amazing food. Whether it’s trying new restaurants, dancing, or just kicking back and watching movies at home, it’s all about creating memorable moments and meaningful vibes based on what brings them joy.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to a few incredibly important people who have helped shape the woman and entrepreneur I am today.
First and foremost, my mother, my lovely Rosie, the foundation of my strength. She taught me how to stay grounded, to keep a positive mindset no matter the circumstances, and to never give up on myself. Her committed support and prayers are part of everything I do.
To my husband, Sean, thank you for believing in me, even when I doubted myself. Your honest critiques, oh lord, ones that hurt but yes the honest ones, the non stop encouragement, and constant pushing have made me stronger, wiser, and more focused. You saw the vision, reminded me of my power in the toughest moments, and helped bring every plan to life
And to my village, my support group of family, friends, and community who stood by me before the brand, before the business even started, and before the recognition, you are the real MVPs. You showed up for me, believed in my vision, and helped breathe life into my dream. I will never forget the love, motivation, and push you gave me when I needed it most.
None of this would be possible without all of you. This journey is ours.
