We had the good fortune of connecting with kyle holbrook and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi kyle, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work life balance is important sometimes when you step away from work he can help you I’ll come back with a fresh refreshed and renewed view and they can get monotonous sometimes if you’re working on a project for several weeks but I also feel blessed that my work is also something I love to do and it is the funnest thing to do as well I think it’s important to do with you love Annette Filipino blessed to be able to do that for a living and meeting people the other artist another creative while doing my work is inspiring please also good sometimes just to sip all the way away from your work even know it’s fun because it’s better for your work you have to have a balance I’d like to go and do nature and spend time with family I am jump in the ocean Will take a long bike ride a road trip you know so when I travel and do murals always take a day or two just to do some tourist stuff and some new country and learn about the culture is everything in life is it is so important to have balance.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Primarily muralist I’ve been painting murals for a living for 20 years I had my daughter 19 so no I didn’t have the typical college life or life in my 20s and I always had a child to provide for other than just providing for myself so I took my heart very seriously and started my business really young H and I have learned a lot doing murals back in the day wasn’t as popular before social media and Instagram and being a young business person at a young person of color in business A lot of times there’s different barriers and people that try to hold you back and also when you become successful or perceived as successful then there’s jealousy that you have to deal with often times or from other artists sometimes they can be with people close to you not something that is challenging in one of the most difficult parts is understanding when you may have to let some people go in your life to advance to where you need to be because you can’t allow anything to prohibit progress and your progression is an artist and human being and if people don’t want to progress you can still love them and help them but you can’t spend time with him as as much as you may have before you start to progress it’s also important to diversify the different types of art to continue to challenge yourself to grow I think it’s also important to get people that specialize in certain things to work within business because when you have a nonprofit do you have a for-profit you have a art studio each one of those involves a different specialty and in a nonprofit world there’s a lot of paperwork and details when are you going to need someone as good at math for you know the grants and counting in all those specific details that can hinder you if you don’t follow the guidelines learning that was very important for me as well I enjoy doing street or in murals and I’ve done them in 43 countries in 27 states I’ve done a film that’s been on Netflix and Amazon prime and currently working on another film are in a book so and I think was in a unique about me is that you know I made it from a long way Growing up I had a great family life both of my parents were teachers but I grew up in a neighborhood that had gangs and I lost 45 friends To gun violence I’ve been shot at several times so I’m lucky to be alive and I think God for that every day I love your traveling in the learning and working collaboratively with other artists sometimes the difficulty is relating with them considering the things I’ve been through in my life as a little different than most of their lives but I enjoy working with youth in and sharing my gifts with others to enhance their lives for me just doing art just for our sake and for myself is very selfish I don’t have any interest in that I like my art to do something for society Deck and enhance the world and peoples lives

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
