We had the good fortune of connecting with Lady Tracey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lady Tracey, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It all started one day during Covid, while I was at home feeling bored. I took up the laptop and started to search for Work-at-Home Jobs, then there it was, “Vacancy for Radio Hosting”. I then said why not try something new? With my past experience in the hotel entertainment industry, it felt less like a challenge.
So I applied. Got the job. Then started working as a volunteer for this Christian podcast network.
For the first year it felt like just an hobby; Sharing encouragements from my inspirational books, telling people about God, and interviewing celebrity artistes.
I loved it! I just wanted to engage more and more. So I decided to get more serious, and that’s when I decided on a brand, then came The Lady Tracey Show.
Now I am interviewing international Gospel Artistes, Entrepreneurs, Coaches, and Book Authors weekly and getting paid to do it.
So in short, I just had a hobby and turned it into a full time job by seizing the moment.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Lets start with the Art of Writing. Ever since I was 12 years old in primary school, I was handpicked by my teacher as a great writer. Apparently, I always had the longest and most exciting stories in Comprehension Class. Thus passion stayed with me in the lowest days on my bedroom floor, when I couldn’t tell my secrets to anyone. I took a pen, a book and wrote. Its as if I was talking to someone who was listening. I took that chance to express my deepest pain. From abuse, to rejection, to being a young non achiever at the time.
Then one fine day, I was visited by a Saint of God, and she told me to write. So I did! And I never stopped. Now I published many books with my small company, and is helping others to tell their truth as well. And that’s how it started.
Fast forward to the bigger challenge, Radio Hosting. My books paved the way to bring edifying and encouraging content to my listeners. I then decided to hear from others! So I introduced Authors’ Inteview as a main segment on my talk show. This opened doors to Nominations and Awards that I never expected. So I humbly accepted the challenges as they came.
It was not easy! It was hard!
Especially when I was working with no income. No proper training, and no one to teach me a thing or two. I had to face it with a phone mic, a Android camera, and the few country sceneries in my backyard.
Those Jamaican data network were quite faithful to keep my shows going each week from home.
With all that have said and done, I have learnt to never despise small beginnings. I’ve understood that your background does not define you. You do not have to fit in to Lo-debar. You can come out of it, even if it means head first!
What your family and friends think of you is not important. Only what God says you are to be.
At this point I want the world to know two things. One, believe in yourself and believe that every man have a purpose under the sun. Then pursue it.
And if riches increase, do not set your heart on it. Use it to help the poor, feed the homeless, and take care of your love ones. It will come in handy one day.
I am thankful for my bad days and good, my moments of rejection and acceptance. And most importantly, I was thankful when I told myself that I would not quit, but remain determined until I met my destiny.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am from the second city Montego Bay in Jamaica. And my best years were spent there. But frankly, I would over look it because of the peace I receive when I am away from the hustle and bustle.
My next best place is a parish in the South of Jamaica, St Elizabeth. There I spent my lowest days. And during those moments, I found ways of escape. They have the most amazing hills, rivers, falls, and forestry. Just to hide in when you need to think. They are known for the most amazing seafood, and ground provision, especially by Treasure Beach.
Because of its rich Agricultural atmosphere, you will always find something edible when passing through the area. Because of its rich culture in South of Jamaica, it’s known as “St. Bess”.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I must acknowledge the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who is the head of my life, and who gave me the vision to become an Author. His grace through my baby steps taught me that it was okay even if I wasn’t an English major.
I also want to thank everyone who have impacted my life one way or the other. Because if I should start with listing, I might run out of ink. Thank you!
