We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance O and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Never giving up, doing it until Kulcha Shok was successful. It wasnt a matter of if, it was when. It tool a long time. Even my accountant was like, ‘look you need to start showing a profit.’ Within the next year or so we did.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our art is captured within my ears because they know the good music to play. We have an ear for great music. We were hired to DJ reggae on one of the biggest radio stations at the time for breaking reggae records. That in turn got me to the VP of Atlantic Records who hired me to help pick songs for Sean Pauls major label release

We got to where we are by always believing in what we were doing and never swaying. It was the longer roas. In the end, people trust us and respect us for our music.

Just remember, do what you love and stick with it, your passion alone will get you through. People see it and want to support you for your passion alone. Then when they see more to it, it just grows & grows

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If its one of my best friends I would show them my life in Miami. I grew up in Coconut Grove so that would be our first stop. Walk around and show them the Village, sight see, show them my elementary school and tell them the stories that go along with it. Stroll thru Peacock Park, maybe The Barnacle and lunch at The Last Carrot.

Take them to Dinner Key show them the old WWII airplane hangars then head over to Bayshore Club for food and hopefully they got reggae music or the Regatta right next store. Head to the Vita Course then Vizcaya

Have to go to Key Biscayne, Stilts ille and South Beach in case theres waves and show them all the places I played and DJ’ed.

That night it would be Teds Hideaway to see and introduce them to some of my oldest friends

Maybe a professional sports game depending on the time of year.

Go out on the boat to Stiltsville and go diving, skiing, fishing, wakeboarding and check out the off islands.

Hopefully by now they are teady to go home

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout out is dedicated to my Uncle Robbie aka Yuck. He was the one who introduced me to reggae & first took me surfing.

The other who deserves recognition is my mother, my uncle’s sister.. while she was dying she wanted to see each of her 3 sons have a dream come true. She baught me my first real DJ Sound system.
