We had the good fortune of connecting with Lasheika Simmons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lasheika, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk are apart of life. We all have taken a risk at one time or another. Both risk and faith have played major roles in my life and career. Stepping out on faith to take a risk and start a business was a major decision. Being a mom of five, money has had to stretch from time to time, but the risky decision to start my business has not been a risk that I’ve regretted.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sense of Serenity is an online Self Care Hub. Having a large family, I wanted to create something for other mothers who give their all to the ones they love and at the end of a busy week want to do a little something special for themselves to relax and unwind but on a budget. What I am most proud about is that my boys want to help, they want to be apart of the business. Just knowing that I have inspired my little ones keeps a fire burning within and a smile on my face. Starting a business literally from nothing is hard, it’s even harder when you are doing it alone. The challenging part for me was being able to do everything that needed to be done in order to make my business run. I’ve learned along the way and still today that you can never learn enough. Always research concerning your business, perfect your craft and know that you’re unique and so is your business. I want the world to know that this mom of five, this student, this business owner has pushed past the past that tried to smudge her, the boundaries that tried to keep her hostage and is achieving her dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whew well I haven’t been out in a while because I’m a mommy, but I would take my friend to Bayside in downtown Miami, we would shop at all of the stores on the strip and we would eat at Bubba Gump’s restaurant near the water. I would take my friend on the water taxi that day to view the sites and than the party cruise that night. I would get a hotel on south beach so that my friend and I could walk the strip and visit the various clubs. I would have a sleepover and invite some of our friends to join us for a game of truth or dare. We would reminisce and the next day shop some more. I would also want to check out a Miami Heat game and hopefully get some autographs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband has been such a major part of my support system from day one. My accountability partners Samantha Helene and Joanna Woolens, who helped me see through the difficult parts of business.
