We had the good fortune of connecting with BB Desire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi BB, what inspires you?
I am constantly inspired by the shape shifters of the world known to me as WOMEN. Women are 50 percent of the population and create and raise the other half which means we create and carry all life then raise and groom the citizens that make up communities around the world.

Yara Shahidi said it best “everything women do from their presence, their poise, and their power breaks barriers and creates space for a fuller existence.”

From wives to mothers, sisters to daughters, coworkers to ceo’s, entrepreneur’s to creators, therapist to bestfriends Women not only occupy space in every field but we excel far beyond the obstacles, restrictions and thresholds that society has tried to place upon us.

There is no other creature who nurtures, protects, educates, survives and thrives in the manner of Women. Women stand before the world dripped in insecurity and fear, shielded in confidence and strength, uplifted by sisterhood and love, and judged by all our imperfections, but still we stand.

I especially find a certain superpower surge of inspiration from Black Women as I have been born and raised by the most unprotected species on earth that at every turn have done much more than survived but turned life into its own magical playground where we set the standards in pop culture, health and beauty, fashion, politics, corporations, small owned businesses, sports, music, medicine and everything else we decide to touch.

Rising from being property to owing property, welfare to millionaires, the evolution of the black woman is a journey like no one else, but one that is commonly shared through silent stares and nods of understanding. Through corporate glass doors it gets hard to ignore the “Karen glares” and “oh can I touch your hair” but don’t speak to loud or they will swear your hostile, you couldn’t begin to understand the restraint and strength the black woman bears. Day in and out , no time to pout she’s doing it alone, getting it done, holding it down and making me proud, proud to be a Black girl in a world where they said we would never have a seat at the table so we took our Black girl magic and built our own.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I originally had so many ideas and concepts I wanted to bring to fruition, but the constant underlying message was I wanted to educate, empower, and inspire a community of women by cultivating a culture of excellence and inclusivity centered around initiatives in beauty, fashion and plus size industries, which is BBDesire Glam’s mission and purpose in everything our brand is and will be involved in.

BBDesire Glam Beauty Bar and BBDesire Glam Boutique are just 2 of the avenues in which my brand is accomplishing that mission and purpose. Our Beauty Bar & boutique located at 840 Park Ave West Palm Beach, FL 33403 is a custom luxury one stop beauty experience that specializes in enhancing and redefining the beauty in everyone. It is a safe community where luxury is the standard, inclusivity is the goal, and convenience is the mission.

I honestly don’t believe there is such a thing as a smooth or easy road on the journey to entrepreneurship and ownership, but I do believe that all the struggles, blood, sweat and tears, hard work and all the lessons, trainings and situations you were placed in along your journey, that you couldn’t understand why, eventually come full circle and show up in a way that requires you to use every talent, tool, and resource that you ever received In order to be successful, and I can attest first hand to that with my latest most exciting opportunity BBDesire Glam has had to date.

This July 2022 I will be a main cast member in a new WeTv television show Super Sized Salon where I get to represent BBDesire Glam. This is a reality television show that explores the first plus sized/super sized salon which was custom designed to cater to woman up to 800 pounds. With an all plus sized staff, the show will also follow our personal and professional lives, living and working together in the city where “what happens here stays here” that’s right Las Vegas!

For me the show was another avenue to not only expand and evolve on BBDesire Glam’s mission on a larger scale, but also to connect with other women who believe in my mission and together we are able to curate something much bigger than we could have on our own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well of course we would have to start off at BBDesire Glam and get our lashes done, get a facial, get some makeup and pick out a cute outfit.

When you visit West Palm you have to make your way downtown to the square on rosemary and to clematis street, but I would definitely make sure to take my bestie to Palm Beach Island for a day of shopping and good food, a day party at the Ben hotel, we would check out a chill Caribbean vibes night on Northwood, have a yacht day on Peanut Island, definitely have to hit Atlantic in Delray for a night out or a brunch, and one of my favorite spas at Eau Palm Beach Resort . When your bestie comes to town you have to take them down to Fort Lauderdale and Miami for a beach day and som chic dining experiences and great content for the gram!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is going to go to my tribe of women who not only inspire and encourage me in life, but whom have all played a vital role in the success of my brand and business and my character as a person.

First and foremost I have to shoutout my heart which belongs to my grandmother who I lost during covid. She was my moral compass, my rock, and the calm to my storm throughout my life who will forever be missed. She never got a chance to see me finally achieve all I had been working towards but she was always on the sidelines cheering me on, hyping me up, and covering me with her love, prayers and wisdom.

My next shoutout is to my Queen, my mother, who raised me as a single parent and literally sacrificed everything to make sure I was afforded every opportunity to pursue my passions and dreams. She was literally on her hands and knees scrubbing the floors and helping me build my business from the ground up. She’s seen my sleepless nights, emotional breakdowns, loss of faith moments, and has always been there to remind me of who I am and that God has got me.

Last but not least My best friends Yolanda and Jhani whom without I wouldn’t have been able to even secure my location.

Yolanda has been my tribe since college and has seen me through some of my lowest and highest moments. She has been my therapist, financial advisor, sister, encourager, protector, and soulmate. A person who accepts and understands me flaws and all and knows when I need to be challenged and when I need to be checked. We all need a Yolanda in our lives and business.

And Jhani who came in my life like a breath of fresh air and restored my faith in people. Who brought light and love in my life and has been one of my biggest supporters and believers, confidants, and just a mirror of hope during hopeless times. A person who sees the world for all its beauty while not even realizing it is her that makes it such a place. The journey to ownership and entrepreneurship can be a dark and lonely place at times and it has been essential to have a friend like Jhani who’s mere presence shows you that there’s always a light waiting for you at the end of the tunnel if you just keep pressing to get there.

These women are my tribe and in that tribe they help me maintain my truth, my peace, my sanity, my reasons, my goals, and my humanity in such inhuman times. The love and support this tribe provides is unmatched and I wouldn’t be the person I am nor where I am today without each and everyone of them.
