We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Longmore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laura, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started Unclad out of my pure frustration with an outdated fashion industry. Once I realized how much harm it was causing—both to the planet and the people behind the clothes—I knew I had to do something different. I wanted to create fashion that not only looked good but also felt good, knowing it was made sustainably and ethically. At Unclad, we’re all about focusing on sustainability and the emotion behind the clothes, because fashion shouldn’t come at the cost of the environment or workers. It’s empowering to know that we’re part of a movement to create change—fashion that’s kind to people and the planet.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
1. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, What am I most proud of or excited about?

We’re bringing a fresh perspective to sustainable fashion! It’s all about the emotion, the feeling, and the effortless sexiness and versatility within the clothes. Sustainability doesn’t have to be dull—it can be sexy, fun, and exciting! We believe fashion should be timeless, effortless, and, most importantly, kind to the planet. Clothing should add something positive to our lives, not cause harm. We’re creating pieces that will make you feel amazing while staying true to sustainable and ethical values.

We’re beyond excited about our upcoming launch and the incredible diversity of our products! We can’t wait to dive into the community, meet our customers face-to-face, and show that we’re so much more than a fashion brand, we’re a movement. Our goal is to create real connections, show our commitment to transparency, and prove that we’re not just releasing something trendy for the moment—our pieces are designed to be a lasting part of your life and your closet.

2. How did you get to where you are today professionally? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

This journey was anything but easy—it was filled with obstacles, challenges, and countless “what was I thinking?” and “what do I do next?” moments. But I kept pushing forward, reminding myself that the frustration, loneliness, and setbacks are only temporary stops on the path to growth. Every hurdle I faced made me stronger and more determined. From my time in the military to navigating the corporate world, through an emotionally tough period of unemployment and financial struggles, and finally, to starting something of my own, each milestone became a guidepost. And through all of it, Unclad remained at the forefront of my mind, fueling my drive. It wasn’t always smooth sailing, but every struggle was worth it to get us to where we are today—on the verge of launching a product we are truly proud of!

3. What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

Unclad has pushed me in ways I didn’t expect—mentally and, most of all, emotionally! I’m the kind of person who wants everything to happen now, and I tend to make decisions with my heart rather than my head. Patience was not my strong suit! But as I’ve been on this brand-building journey, I’ve had to embrace the slower process of launching a product, and I’ve learned so much about myself. I’ve come to understand the importance of having a flexible plan. It’s about balancing structure with a bit of scrappiness. Not everything goes according to plan, but I’ve realized that sometimes those unexpected detours are for the best and always happen for a reason. If I had launched 2 years ago, the product and strategy would have been totally underdeveloped. We wouldn’t have made the amazing connections we have made, pulled off successful photoshoots, been a part of the OTC fashion event, or prepared to launch an ebook that maps out everything we’ve learned about starting a sustainable brand so far! 2024 has been a huge eye-opener—a year full of growth, unexpected opportunities, challenges, and constant pivoting!

4. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

I want everyone to know that Unclad was built with passion, love, and relentless dedication, centered around values that mean the world to us—community, sustainable change, transparency, and longevity. We are more than just a brand; we are a reflection of what we believe in and what we want to share with the world. Our journey started from really humble beginnings. We didn’t have much when we started—money, exposure, and awareness were tough to come by, especially as a fashion startup. But what we did have was a tenacious drive to create something that felt different. We knew the old way of doing things in fashion wasn’t working, and honestly, it never really did. We believe there has to be a better, more sustainable way. As we grow, we want to show that sustainable fashion can be affordable, and accessible, and can inspire people to think more consciously about what they wear and how it’s made.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a relaxing girls’ day itinerary, I’ve mixed a few of my favorite spots with some local gems around West Palm Beach:

To start | We would kick off the day at The Serenity Garden Tea House and Cafe in West Palm Beach. It’s so cozy, reminds me of my childhood in England and the tea is next level. Their Chocolate Pu’erh Tea literally tastes like hot chocolate. I always go there wanting to try something new, but my commitment to that tea is unwavering. If you’re into a laid-back vibe with amazing tea and the cutest combo of sandwiches and desserts, you’ll love it! The atmosphere is a blend of timeless and charming, and honestly, it’s hard to leave once you sit down.

Museum visit | Since we’re both huge art and history lovers, a stop at the Norton Museum of Art and the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm is a must. I’ve been to both more times than I can count, but every visit feels fresh, full of nature, and so personal. Whether you’re soaking in the artwork or wandering through the peaceful gardens, it’s an inspiring way to spend a few hours.

Grab drinks | For a little evening fun, we would hit up the Brazilian Court in West Palm Beach. It’s such a hidden gem—literally, with an intimate feel and the freshest drinks you’ll find.

A Night Out | Throw Social in Delray never disappoints! They host incredible themed events, from Girl’s Night Out to their jam-packed Halloween weekend, Octoberfest celebrations, and so much more! It’s such a fun way to end the night!

I’m always going back and forth between West Palm and Delray—both offer a perfect blend of laid-back vibes and exciting places. If you’re in town, this itinerary strikes the ideal balance of art, relaxation, and fun!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can’t begin to express my gratitude for the incredible mentorship and support I’ve received from so many amazing people along our journey—family, friends, collaborators, models, and interns. A special thank you to my mentor Stephen Higgins, whose guidance has been invaluable, and to Ingrid Desormes for her continuous holistic support and creativity. My family and my best friend have been my rock, and I’m so grateful for my intern Victoria, the amazing models I’ve connected with, the consultants, and Lorna Collins, who have helped bring my creative vision for Unclad to life. They’ve all been amazing, pushed me forward, and cheered me on through every challenge and moment of doubt. I truly wouldn’t have made it this far without their love, belief, and encouragement—it’s meant the world to me!
