We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura San Jose’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
It is very easy to get caught up in our day to day activities. We all get stuck at the office late and can feel unmotivated after a hard day. About 2 years ago I found myself unhappy with my weight, lack of exercise and personal motivation. I went on a wellness retreat for a week at Red House Wellness, in Park City, Utah . I spent a week there hiking, doing yoga, self improvement workshops, intermittent fasting and eating healthy meals. That week made me realize what truly mattered and I became refocused. My main priority was work life balance and spending time with the right people. My family and my true friends. I realized that when I prioritized myself and my health and wellness I was no being selfish. I was becoming a better person. I was a better wife, mother and friend. I also became more motivated at work and saw success in all aspects of life.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Broker associate with Douglas Elliman. I work in the New Development Division. I am currently working on my second project in Fort Lauderdale. I am the Director of Sales for 3000 Waterside. It is a luxury intracoastal front condominium project. I am in charge of pre construction sales. My husband is also in Residential development and he gave me my first new construction opportunity working on a project for Sobelco. We successfully sold out that project. I then took a couple months off to travel, exercise, spend time with my family and relax. I was fortunate to be offered my second project and that launched in December of 2021. This will be a 3 year project from start to building completion. I love working inhouse sales. It is very different than general real estate. You get to be involved with the Developers, marketing and even sometime the design. It does also have it challenges. Some clients find it challenging to buy from paper and it is my job to paint them a picture. I have to sell them on the unit design, the building, amenities, location and most importantly the lifestyle. I pride myself on being completely honest and try to be as knowledgeable as possible. Once I get on a project I learn everything I can about the project, area and my competition. I also prefer to upsell my project rather than put down another project. Your reputation follows you, so it is important that you have a good one!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably say I would like to spend the day at the Q Club Hilton Ft. Lauderdale poolside in a cabana. We would have champagne, lunch, listen to the DJ, swim, and sunbathe. Then for evening I would go to Holly Blue for dinner and then into the Angeles night club next door for some music and dancing. Next I would pack a suitcase and jump on the brightline. I would head to the design district in Miami to do some shopping and have a cappuccino on the rooftop of the Dior boutique. Then I would spend a couple nights at my favorite hotel in Miami, the Faena. For dinner Papi Steak is a must! we would drink Koko chanels and eat the best steak in town. The next night Carbone or the Deck at Garden Isles also 2 of my favorites. While staying at the Faena we would have to visit the Tierra Santa Healing house, it is one of the best spas I have ever been to! I would also take in a show at the Faena theater. After a fun weekend it would be time to go home and get back to my routine.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that have influenced me in my life. My husband and children have always supported me in all my efforts. I went back to college later in life and changed careers and then went back to my original career. They have supported me in every way along this journey. Sherri Lukac of Red House Wellness is someone I met in a chance meeting. We both attended a 50th birthday party and just happened to sit next to each other and started talking. We immediately hit it off and years later she opened Red House Wellness and I was among the first group of patrons. It was an amazing experience! I believe that everything happens for a reason and I am thankful that we met that day.
