We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Shippy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Seth Godin’s quote: “Please stop waiting for a map. We reward those who draw maps, not those who follow them.”
No one will do things like you will – there’s only one you. Your fingerprint/your mark is all over your business. You get to choose it, create it, dream it, do it differently than you see anywhere else. Don’t be afraid to create your own map.
What should our readers know about your business?
We always talk about the fact that we’re driven by seeing, knowing and hearing people first. The marketing and business strategies that we work with companies and nonprofits to deliver come from that place – we call it Identity Based Strategy. It’s a pretty simple concept, but really hard for business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit teams to deliver because they’re trying to sometimes just hold it all together or manage their teams and the business. As we add in the leadership component this year, I’m excited to continue to serve teams that are doing important things in the world – helping them get clarity so they can take flight and continue to grow. As I look back on the journey of StoryWork so far, its been all the things – fun and challenging – and I wouldn’t trade it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh there are so many good things! Probably West Palm Beach + Palm Beach. RH rooftop is one of my favorites, Echo in Palm Beach, Henry’s, biking the lake trail, hitting The Colony for an afternoon cocktail, and I could go on and on.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are friends and family that have been there along the way – so many at the right time, in different seasons. Looking back, I can see how my story was woven together through generations of grandparents and parents. I’m thankful for taking a piece of each one of them with me as I pull in their strength, wisdom, business acumen, people skills, and faith.
