We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawnette Lucille and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lawnette , making friends as an adult isn’t easy. Any advice or experiences you can share?
Let’s be honest, making friends as an adult can be a bit awkward at times… you pick a complete stranger and say “hey, I’m adding you to my life” lol. The key to successful adult friendships is surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals. This mindset plays an integral role in being a business owner. If your circle is full of fellow entrepreneurs and creatives, you have an endless source of knowledge and inspiration to tap into. I’m blessed to say that the success of my company is certainly a reflection of the friend groups that I’m a part of.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
It’s always been a dream of mine to bring my sense of style to people’s everyday lives, and thankfully my company has allowed me to do so. Lawnette Lucille LLC proudly offers Personal Wardrobe Services. My clients can opt for image & wardrobe consultations, personal shopping, personalized look books, and event styling. I’m known for pushing boundaries in regards to my own wardrobe, and pride myself in encouraging my clients to do the same! The seed for this dream was planted 11 years ago, I am blessed to say that it has been a rather smooth journey so far. For me, styling has always served as a creative escape from the “real world.” If anything, it’s brought me a sense of balance when facing challenges in other aspects of my life. Overall, I want people to know that achieving your desired look doesn’t have to be an intimidating or overly expensive process… that’s what sets my art apart from others.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
There are so many layers to South Florida… there’s never a dull moment living here. When introducing my friends to the area, I like to give them a tour of my favorite spots. The ideal day would start with a lifting sesh at my favorite gym Freedom Weightlifting, followed by some acai bowls from the one & only Celis Produce. Thrifting on Antique Row would be next on the list. I’m sure we’ll find the perfect outfits at Dina C’s Fab & Funky Consignment Boutique for the night’s festivities. Lunch at Havana’s Cuban restaurant after thrifting is tradition, you have to celebrate your finds with a pitcher of sangria. The rest of the afternoon will be spent on the beach of course. After a quick nap & glam session, we’d head to Northwood Village for dinner and dancing. Table 427 has the best octopus & cocktails in town! Then we’d slide over to Petanque Kitchen & Bar for deep house tunes courtesy of Into the Garden. After all of those adventures, the only way to end the perfect night is with late night snacks at Howley’s Diner.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Many thanks are owed to many people when reflecting back on my journey, but one human in particular is responsible for the start of “Lawnette Lucille” if you will. I met my best friend, Kristina, back in 2009 and she immediately suggested that I look into “styling.” At the time I had no idea what that meant; but after doing a bit of research and teaming up with fellow local creatives, I was well on my way to building a portfolio. She put me on the path that I am on today, and I couldn’t be more thankful for her insight & friendship. I love you Kristi!
