We had the good fortune of connecting with Lawrence Flowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lawrence, why did you pursue a creative career?

I pursued an artistic/creative career because it is both my passion and apart of my purpose. Sharing parts of myself through the message and melodic expressions of my music and story telling has become extremely humbling and grounding for me. People are important to me and so is my faith. I believe that God loves us sooo much that he gave us each other. But somewhere along the lines we forgot and or loss sight of just how much of a gift we all were to each other.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I am both an artist and an actor. I began singing at a very young age and with a very musical family. It gave me my love and place in music. I was able to learn and grow throughout the years of singing at both church and school while also traveling to various places with different groups, choirs, and as a soloist. After making a name for myself locally and somewhat abroad, I graduated from high school and went off to college. I attended Florida State University, by way of, both academic scholarship and affiliate scholarship, as a member of the Boys Choir of Tallahassee. During my time in Tallahassee, FL the relationships that I was able to form were what introduced me to a huge part of my purpose. In 12/03/2001, I founded my group, Lawrence Flowers and Intercession, affectionately known as #TeamLfi. This became my family, my assignment, and my business. After almost 3 years of rehearsing, we began singing out and creating a name for ourselves in the southeast region. Once we moved our operations to Jacksonville, FL in 2006 we were able to regroup, refocus, and recharge. Many different events pushed us to work harder and harder with every endeavor. Being different, wasn’t easy within this industry, especially if you weren’t willing to change and/or conform. But through our tough skin and resilience, we were able to persevere. Forging our own uncharted path we were able to make our name and voices heard around the world. Since our freshman record in 2009, we’ve recorded 5 albums. Having music to cross barriers, religious and racial boundaries, break records, garner millions of listeners, 2X #1 Billboard Singles (WAY) (Calculated) & debuted #1 on iTunes), and help to advance and curate culture. Being an artist has been encompassed with bumpy rides but it’s 100% necessary.

As an actor, I have been afforded to live on stage in the world of musical theatre, and get my feet wet on screen with both small appearances and small reoccurring supporting roles in television. I am currently promoting my newest record “Merge”(Released February 11, 2022), while completing a theatre contract here in the state of Maine playing in The Color Purple as “Harpo”.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I’m the wrong person to schedule these events cause my itinerary would have a lot of gaps in it (Lol). I’m such a homebody. I love to engage people and go out from time to time but most of my time is spent at the house. But I’d take my friend(s) to a few of my favorite eating spots in the city on the Belt-line. Maybe go to a lounge that has live music or a show scheduled like Groove Lounge at St. James Live. The movies, if there’s anything new and exciting showing, along with bowling. Other than that, linking up with close friends at someone’s house to eat and play games is usually the move. 🤗🤷🏾‍♂️

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My Momma, My Family, My Team(LFI), My Friends, my Pastors and Relentless church family, and everyone who continuously support and cover me. It gives me the strength to be the greatest authentic expression of myself.
