Meet Leo Gennaro | DJ/Music Producer & Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Leo Gennaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leo, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue a creative career for a few reasons. The first was when I realized my music classes were the only ones I was doing good in. Making music came natural to me, I have been involved with music in one way or another from a very young age. When I am making or playing music I am my happiest and I continue to pursue my music career to do that for others as well.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We’ll I have been involved with music ever since I can remember. I started out as a drummer and later got into DJing and music production. I recently started releasing some original tracks that I incorporate into my live sets. Throughout this journey there were lots of challenges and obstacles. I learned that you just have to keep going and be persistent to have a positive outcome. At times things can be hard but it’s the ones who get through the tough times that make it in the end. I’m sure there will be many more challenges throughout my career but like I said just gotta push through the hard times and you’ll get to where you want. I have always used music to my advantage on bad or down days music brings me up and gives me the motivation to move forward. I want to bring my music to the world and be able to do the same for everyone else.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When friends of mine are in town I love to show them all my favorite spots. One of my favorite breakfast spots is Sticky Bun Cafe in Deerfield Beach. After breakfast or sometimes even before we find a brunch spot or a day club to go to. One of my favorites would have to be Daer Day Club, it’s an amazing vibe and they always have good Dj’s on the lineup. After the day club we normally go back to the house to relax by the pool and maybe get a nap in before our night extravaganza. To start the night we would head to dinner, MAU Miami has amazing food and an even better atmosphere. After dinner we make our way to a local bar or club maybe Treehouse or Le Rouge. To end the night and sometimes even go to the morning we head to Club Space. Space is hands down my favorite place in miami, some of the best shows I have seen in my life were at that club. After space it’s time to head home and get some real sleep.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s hard to pick one thing to dedicate my success to, I could go on for days. First off I would love to thank my family and friends for always supporting me in my music career. I would also like to thank Icon Collective for giving me the boost I needed. After completing the music production program I felt I gained skills and knowledge that would have taken me years to do on my own. This school put me on the right track and helped me move forward in my music career.
