Meet Lindsay Dunlap | Trainer, Consultant, Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Dunlap and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lindsay, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I went into my business without much direction. I was really following a deep knowing that I was supposed to be taking this path. I still remember when I told my husband that I wanted to get enroll in my coaching certification program. I tossed and turned until almost midnight and then said “hey…” and started that conversation. But I knew I couldn’t NOT do it.
I just knew I was meant to do something BIGGER.

What should our readers know about your business?
I work primarily supporting small business and corporate teams with breaking through all the noise and drama to build highly effective and engaged teams. I fell into a career in human resources almost 15 years ago and things have just evolved from there.
I always loved the people part of human resources. But as I spent more time in the career, it became more about compliance than people and that’s not what I was there for.
My personal experiences really pushed me out of the “daily grind” and were like a sling shot to start my business.
My husband was involved in a farm accident in 2014 and I was balancing supporting him through his recovery, “momming” with 2 small kids and working full time. I pushed until I burnt myself out, and that’s when the seed was planted for my business.
I wouldn’t say it has been “hard”, but I would say it hasn’t been what I expected. I think when I started down the path I just expected people to magically know to hire me! It takes a lot of trial and error to know who you really love to serve and how to connect with them.
Sometimes you cry and think, forget it, I will just stay in the soul sucking job and deal with it. And then you get out of your way and pick back up where you left off! Being in business for yourself is driven by fulfilling your purpose.
My biggest lessons have been to really be intentional. With my words, with my decisions, with my down days. Letting myself feel what I am feeling and knowing that it doesn’t say anything about who I am, it is simply an outcome of situations. I can then decide to change my situation, to change my feelings. And if all else fails, go to sleep and start again tomorrow!
My business is all about authenticity and giving every person I engage with the space to be who they are. Teams find conflict and dissention when there is force and distrust. Build the trust, and everything else will follow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh my…I am a total homebody!!!! I would order in some great Mexican food, get a big ‘ole canister of coffee so we can have coffee together every morning on my porch 🙂
I also really enjoy any time we can spend time in nature.
I am never the friend to plan the events, though!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are more people than I can probably even think of who I value their support as I am building my business. My first and foremost is my husband, Andrew. He understands very little of what I do, yet he knows it brings me so much joy. He may not “get it” but he sees it’s where I am meant to be.
And I can’t continue without acknowledging Nellie Corriveau. I have been a part of her communities for over 2 years and it has given me a safe space to explore, more connections than I thought possible, and her heart to see women live their purpose and passion through their businesses is inspiring.
