We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Capron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When you’re starting a business or working for yourself, it’s said that it’s always important to put your “best foot” forward. You’re called to help serve as many customers as you can and while that does equate to more money and a growing client base, burn out comes much quicker which often leads to the desire of eventually burning down your business.

I used to be that individual and burn out came very quickly to the point where I wasn’t performing as well for clients, those important to me, and even myself. While recovering from burnout, I’ve learned to establish boundaries and place time limits when it comes to working. This helps me become more productive, focused, and more creative.

While creating a great work/life balance is work in progress, a few methods that I love to use the Pomodoro Method (4 rounds of 25-minute focused work with a 30 minute break in between). I also have creative days where I don’t see clients and make space for family and friends time. While I enjoy the framework of my work/life balance, I’m also learning how to be flexible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I consider myself to be a minimalist when it comes to web design. I love the “less is more” aesthetic. I know that there are different and various trends when it comes to web design but minimalism is my home base. Whenever I design, I try to give my clients a luxe look that they can be proud of.

Of course, this look design foundation didn’t come easy. It was a lot of trial and error especially when it came to technical design but one of things that I’m most proud of is seeing how my trial and error turned into something proven and glorious. I never took any design classes so it was years of practicing with what works and what didn’t along with finding inspiration. Also, striking the balance between being inspired and copying someone else’s style was a change as well.

A few lessons that I’ve learned along the way as a web designer to make sure you do a QA (quality assurance) on your work. Double check and test out everything. Design for multiple devices. Don’t stick to just desktop formatting. Listen to your clients because it’s their vision that you’re designing for.

With these lessons that I’ve learned over the years, I’ve learned to build a solid framework and clients base where people know that the web design that they’ll receive will be done in excellence with stellar support and education.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While there’s so much to do in South Florida and live is always all the move, I would want their stay to be more of relaxing vacation. No agendas. No time frames. However, I would have a few MUST-GO spots. Deco Drive would be an excellent spot to visit. A day in South Beach with lunch at an authentic Italian eatery called BOTTA would be awesome. Heading back to Fort Lauderdale, I would definitely have a nice dinner at Rodizio Brazilian Steakhouse in Dania Beach.

There would be a couple of beach visits either at Pompano Beach, Hallandale Beach, or North Miami Beach. Of course, in North Miami Beach, I would have to see my friends as Talkin’ Taco who serves THE BEST authentic carne asada tacos on this side of the coast. A few other hangout spots would be The Living Room at the W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale Beach or Laudedale-By-the-Sea.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Christian faith is very important. Of course, without Christ, none of this would be possible. I want to give a colossal thank you and shoutout my husband, Donovan. He is my biggest cheerleader, often comes up with some pretty innovative ideas for web design, and often helps me with coding or other tech work. I want to say thank you and dedicate this shoutout to Genevieve Carvil-Harris, “the world’s greatest capacity building strategist”, for pushing my limits and comfort zone. Finally, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my clients, past and present, for believing in me trusting me to bring their brand/business vision on the web to life.
