We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Moses and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process firstly has to do with the desire to do something impactful. This is how I established my charity, Xenacious Foundation with Co-Founder, Sherizah.
Secondly, research to ensure that all the legalities are covered.
Then moving forward with a business plan that details what exactly is the identity of company.
Lastly, execute.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I entered the corporate world at the age of eighteen. Since then I have had the pleasure to work in the banking industry, lotteries and now aviation.
This has allowed my knowledge to expand and I continue to grow each day. Working in corporate Jamaica and the USA has been a true blessing in teaching me the importance of cultural differences and its impact on a business.
Experiencing promotions to even setbacks gave me the motivation to push through and pray hard. The best lesson I have learnt is understanding that there is something to learn from every bad experience, don’t get so caught up in your emotions that you miss the lesson.
At heart, I am a creative and would love to explore that side of myself in the form of a business.
In all my current and future business endeavors, I want the brand to reflect God, usefulness and symbolize the change for better. I want persons to be empowered and appreciated when they interact with the brand.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite spots in Jamaica that I will always recommend are Eits Cafe (17 Mile Post) located in Newcastle in the beautiful hills, Lunchkit located at 1st Street Newport West and even though I no longer eat meat, I will still encourage and introduce my overseas friends to stop at a jerk chicken man on the side of the road! They will not regret it. Blue Lagoon, YS Falls and Dunns River are a must visit for that fresh water fun. Hellshire beach for its yummy food and a dip in the sea.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Martin-Peter, has always pushed me to go after every vision. He is a planner and helps to keep me grounded and focused on the process of any plan.
Sherizah, the Director and Co-Founder of Xenacious Foundation. We both saw the need for a change and wanted to be apart of something that serves others. Her organizational skills and persistence made the process smoother.
My mother, Judith, has always comforted me and encouraged me to do anything I set my heart on. She is the foundation of my strength.
