Meet Lisa Zhen | Jewelry Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Zhen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
I managed and then purchased and ran an independent record store (Uncle Sam’s Music Miami Beach & Lauderhill) for over 28 years. In 2014 I made the difficult decision to walk away due to the changes in the music business. It was my joy and pleasure to unlock the doors to my own store every day, but financially I knew I had to make this decision.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
After the record store closed, I had to find a “9-5”, my first job after all those years didn’t allow me the time to do what I love, jewelry designing, I was able to create jewelry, but didn’t have enough time to do shows and sell the jewelry. I now work in a Media Company, a true 9-5 job, and it leaves my weekends free! I am so much happier now that I am able to go out and sell my creations most weekends!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Broward County and worked in Miami Beach for so many years…but, I prefer to stick to my area…I love Wynwood (of course), but I love Mass District and Fat Village in Fort Lauderdale. I would definitely take them to local craft/art shows for the great vibes , eat food truck food (the variety is amazing) and enjoy a low key walk around the Riverwalk area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Husband George and my children have always allowed me to be who I am and encourage me to keep doing what I enjoy, which is creating and doing shows. I do at least 3 shows a month and work on my jewelry almost every night and I always appreciate the freedom I have to do that.
