We had the good fortune of connecting with Lloyd Curtis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lloyd, why did you pursue a creative career?
Because I am a creator at heart. Art, music, writings, fashion. I naturally love to live and express myself and connect with people. (Mixin’ & Vibin’)
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve held roles in the past from hospitality, customer service, entertainment & freelancing. I wouldn’t call any of those roles my career, but they definitely helped shape my character. They also helped me figure out what I wanted to and didn’t want to do with my life. We’re all different and what sets me apart from everyone else is that I’m motivated to create peace, enable change, exude love, inspire, and sponsor others. I guess I stand out a little more in some ways because I am not afraid to challenge opposing views; I am not afraid to express myself in any setting. Championing from spaces where I chose to speak freely, grow from relatable and opposing individuals and situations is how I have learned. I strongly feel we as a people need to connect and engage more. In our communities, workspace, etc. In doing so we’re mixing cultures, ideas, art, political views & personal stories. I have gotten to where I am by the continuous support of my tribe including the likes of God, Family (bloodline, co-workers, friends, strangers, supporters just to name a few;) then secondly believing in myself and constantly reminding myself that I am not perfect, but I am someone special with something to truly offer the world. At the end of the day my job is to build my company, MAD Media Entertainment (MME) to be a successful Fortune 500 or better business. I created MME to be a conglomerate of things in the marketing and media industry. I created a space that allows me to tap into my network and it allows me to be a resource and be a bridge. I love helping people, seeing people grow, teaching and learning; MME is my catalyst to do all those things. We offer marketing services, photography, videography, brand equity, you name it. While working with all these dope artists and creatives I started my latest love project “Mixy Vybz”. Mixy Vybz is a creative way to cater to all communities through music, food, health, personal growth and so much more. I’m meeting all these dope people and hosting these conversations; all while creating a space for my audience to be on this journey with me. It’s liberating and it’s also the perfect assist to the biggest and most important job I have which is being a father. I’m protecting, preparing & providing for my prince and his future kingdom.
About my career:
I did not go in a straight line to where I am, lol. This is the beginning of my career journey. Right, wrong or indifferent, I have learned from each job and know those experiences played a part in me choosing my career. Was it easy? Yes and No. Yes, because I have the strength, will power and stubbornness to fight for my vision and perseverance to overcome obstacles. No, because I didn’t have all the answers and sometimes couldn’t see through the immediate fog of my present-day situation. I gained strength, clarity and encouragement from my tribe. My motivation and constant desire to stay focused comes from my son. We are all different, but we all have a doppelgänger or “life” clone in a way. Everything we believe, feel, experience, think, see, hear, learn, earn etc.; there is someone else in the world experiencing the same thing or something similar. This is why we have to share our experiences!! It will inspire our twin flame to keep their fire and keep going.
Anything is possible if you really put your mind to it. Even when you’re struggling with not feel worthy, having mental health episodes, lack of a support etc. Talking about genuine situations I have experienced or providing a platform for those stories is something I can help bridge the gap and be a light. This is essential for my young prince to understand as he grows through life mixin’ and vibin’.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To be honest that is such a loaded and broad question!!! If I were asked this question I’d basically ask what that friend is into, interested in, what they have going on, purpose for the trip, the type of cuisine they want. I can’t just send you out there; I need to gauge what you’re on so I don’t send you off!! If they really have no clue or are really open to something outside of their comfort zone then I’d give them a mix of places I have either experienced for myself or wanted to visit, but haven’t gotten around to it. Some of the spots I’d recommend to experience in DADE/BROWARD county (in no particular order):
Groovin Bean
Bar One
Moshi Moshi or Sushi Samba
Meat Market/ Smith & Wollensky/ Bourbon Steak
Vegan On The Go (Healthy Fast Food)
Grown
Chef Creole
Sheri
Taste Rite Bakery
LC Roti Shop/ Laz Roti Shop/ Joy’s
Jamaica House (24 Hours)/ Dukunoo/ Original Junies
Vegetarian Restaurant by Hakin
Front Porch Cafe for breakfast
Awash Ethiopian Restaurant

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
