We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Morte and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was always a dream of mine to have the opportunity to have a business of my own. A few weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I had the biggest motivator, my unborn child. She pushed me to follow my dreams to be able to provide for her a great life, and so wicked Hair witch studio was created. I wanted my hair studio to embody everything I believe in: love, great hair, acceptance, & magic ✨ when it came to opening up my own studio the first things I thought of was the brand- being a lover of magic, wicked Hair witch was born. It was the perfect name that signifies who I am as an individual, and the vibe in my studio. After developing my brand I focused on my business plan, location, & goals. I’m so proud of how much I have implemented within the last year and can’t wait to keep my business growing and pursuing my goals within the studio✨

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Wicked Hair Witch is a private hair studio that is founded on the beliefs that magic, positivity, acceptance, and good hair are essentials in life ✨ it wasn’t easy to get where I am now, i had a dream to open my own place, but I always believed it was further down the road. When I got pregnant, I knew I needed to change the unhealthy environment I was in, in order to grow and provide for my new family. My pregnancy was the motivation I needed to believe in myself and pursue my dream much sooner. During opening my studio , I had a very high risk pregnancy which made things a little more difficult, but every challenge was a new experience that helped me create the environment I have now, where it’s a genuine and positive experience for all My clients, where all feel welcome and accepted . I think I am most proud of staying true to myself and my brand- and I am so excited to watch my business grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Im not going to lie, I’m a total home body but there’s definitely some awesome places I love to go to. Tates comics is my go to for the fan girl in me, I love going there to buy comics, Asian snacks, fandom items and more. Paris morning bakery is so awesome! A great blend of Korean and French pastry influences that leave you wanting more! When it comes to dinning- I love YOT at the lauderdale marina center, great food, beautiful yacht views and all out amazing dinning experience. I would totally recommend downtown Fort Lauderdale, it’s so great for going out at night, I always love to see if there’s an event at revolution, or go out for drinks at Luckys Tavern

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I couldn’t be where I am now without the support of My fiancé Mark and my best friend Courtnie. They believed in me every step of the way and helped me stay true to my brand.
