Meet Lorenzo “Zoe” Acosta | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorenzo “Zoe” Acosta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorenzo “Zoe”, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m Florida through and through. Born and raised. I’m a first generation Salvadorean-American, my mom and most of my family have worked the fields of Florida my entire life, and while we didn’t have much, they have instilled in me principles of hard work, perseverance, and integrity. I am forever inspired by the vibrant colors, delicious tastes, and cultural diversity of South Florida.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always strived to evolve my techniques, while maintaining the colorful, playful aspects of my signature style. It has not been easy. There have been a lot of times I have felt like giving up, but in those times, I have had the luck of having a partner to keep me focused and to remind me of all the progress I have made.
I have learned that knowing your worth is crucial as a creative entrepreneur and that complacent stagnation is the death sentence of this craft, so, you have to keep evolving and pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I believe in supporting mom-and-pop spots. Created, operated, and frequented by locals. One of my favorite places to hang out for a good beer is Exit One Tap Room in Florida City. They have a rotating schedule of food trucks, live music, DJs, and events, so it is a perfect spot for just about any occasion. Not far from it is one of my favorite taco spots, El Tacazo. Make sure you get the carnitas mixtas!! If I’m in Wynwood, I always have to make a stop at Cielito’s Artisan Pops for a popsicle. And if I’m in the design district I have to go get a Yeti Burger from Organic Food Kings, make sure you get the seasoned fries and chipotle mayo. Thank me later.
Being so far south allows us easy, quick, access to the Keys. So for special occasions, we like to go explore new restaurants along the keys, usually with our dog Chiki along for the ride.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
From day one my wife has supported and encouraged me. From getting my first business cards printed to keeping my accounting (and budget!.) Her support has allowed me to expand from a hobby into a business.
