We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucia & Tania and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucia & Tania, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The process behind starting our own business was years in the making. We met while studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology and instantly clicked, maybe it was our love for fashion or our undeniable work ethic. While loving the opportunities we’ve had in our careers we still had a desire to create something of our own. Our thought was simple. Provide a curation of specially designed and sourced pieces. The Sourced Studio currently offers belts, necklaces, bracelets and more.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When we first brainstormed the idea of The Sourced Studio we knew we wanted distinctive products. We came up with a sourcing strategy and handcrafted our first collection, while offering custom sizing.
Working with a partner in a virtual setting was quite the challenge. Communication and trust played a big role in expanding the brand. The biggest lesson we’ve learned is that starting your own business is not as glamorous as they make it seem in the movies (cue endless conversations about taxes).
Our brand is filled with the smallest of details from the packaging to the website to ensure the customer experience. We take pride in being a small business that offers quality products. We are inspired by the ever-changing world of fashion, culture and design.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
NYC – Let’s start the day at Brooklyn Bagels in Chelsea, a BEC on a toasted bagel – extra cheese, you’ll thank us later. After, it’s time to head uptown and visit The MET Cloisters in Dykman. Head over to Mamasushi for happy hour drinks and some Dominican sushi. For the night time, the Lower East Side has two of our favorite places. Mr. Purple for a great view and drinks, Pianos for a good time you probably won’t remember.
MIA – Start your morning with the local Madruga Bakery for homemade croissants and coffee. Then head to the Design District for the best shopping and lunch at Mandolin is a must. You can’t visit without an afternoon at South Beach with a side of tacos from Bodega. End the night in Brickell with dinner at Pubbelly Sushi and some bar hopping.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We would love to shout out our friends for being our first models/customers, our alma mater for the recognition in their Holiday Gift Guide, and our families for the endless support.
