We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucie Wicker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I do not take risk lightly but I do think in most cases it is necessary for starting your own business. I left a fulltime job with benefits in 2010 to go back to school for photography and at the time it felt like I was taking a huge leap. I had savings but it was still a big risk leaving a job that provided financial security. I couldn’t go back so it was really sink or swim. I did not have a business plan at the time and had to learn a lot along the way but when I think back to how unhappy I was at that job, it makes taking that risk completely worth it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always enjoyed working with people and bringing out their personalities in my photos. Getting to know the people I am working with and how best to capture their energy is a challenge I thrive on. I have always loved documentaries and storytelling. I look at my work as another way of storytelling visually.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in a coastal town so I would definitely include the water in our itinerary! A day at the beach with lunch from Daily Press or a sunset boat ride for sure. We could grab a drink on the water at the Olde Salt House and dinner in town on the patio at Bia or treetop porch at Lenny’s Hideaway.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My clients and supporters! Anyone who has hired me, recommended me, helped me out in any way – you are the reason my business is still here and growing after all these years. I couldn’t do it without you and I am so appreciative!
