We had the good fortune of connecting with Maia Cabral and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Maia, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my business, I thought I could offer a unique service. Reversible swimwear, it’s like having two in one bikini. I thought that was unique and different. So I decided to start my business. My own reversible swimwear line. But, obviously, as a designer, there is not limit to creating new styles, so now I have reversibles, sporty and jewelry styles, all unique swimwear designs with adjustable and replaceable straps.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am from a small town with big dreams! So, I moved to New York City to pursue my modeling career, after seven years of living in the big apple, I decided to moved to Miami Beach, FL. to keep working as a model and focus on my swimwear business. I’ve been working as a model for 10+ years internationally. In the beginning I started with a small model agency doing runway shows only, then I started to travel and do commercial work as well. At the moment I work as a freelance model and also work with TXM Models, in New York and Miami. I have my own swimwear line, where I am the designer and create all the swimwear styles you can see on my website. I am very creative, I organize all my photoshoots and runway shows. I make all the designs from scratch. I buy the fabrics myself, custom all the straps, hooks, sliders and every accessories and jewelry thats in each design I make.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places to hang out are: The 1 Hotel for a drink, Zuma Restaurant in Brickell for dinner dates, During the day go for a little walk around Wynwood Walls, and Bayside Marketplace, Also ride Bikes and Rollerblade around Collins Ave. in South Beach, I also love the shops and rooftops in Brickell. Clubs I like: Liv, Space and 11leven. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mom in the first place, then myself! friends and my boyfriend. They all helped somehow, in different areas of need, I am forever grateful, and I don’t think a person can succeed in life or business by working or living by themselves. We all need and get help from someone when we start. And thats a good thing!
