We had the good fortune of connecting with marc and susan abrams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi marc and susan, what principle do you value most?
PedalYard was and is being created not only to provide a safe place and guidance to learn how to ride a bike…but…it’s much more. We’re building a parenting program with the purpose of building better families. At PedalYard the parent ALWAYS does the teaching. Our coaches are there to offer encouragement, guidance, and to keep everyone safe. The interesting part of this is that our research as well as our practical experience has shown that by a parent teaching their child to ride a bike…”hands-on”…they have a closer relationship for years to come. Much better communication and family bonding. With all the problems existing today Susan and I feel that one way to a better future is through better families. PedalYard is our effort to build better families.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Susan has over 45 years of experience in the media sales industry and is still a top producer with Ocean Drive Magazine. She has always been one of the top producers at any publication she has worked for. Currently she works with all mediums with her position at the MAgazie. She has unusual experience that she morphed from strictly print to multi-media sales.

I have been in EVERY area of the marketing and advertising industry. Started in traditional media way before the internet existed and then began Interactive projects in the late 1990’s. Have stayed current on all thing’s media and marketing. Our project includes a number of different components, including an online Zoom Coaching component. All of our marketing and advertising is done in-house and directed by Susan and I.

As far as how it happened and how difficult it was. Nothing is ever easy, but with the foundational thinking we learned in our early years and a lot of hard work things have a tendency to work out for us.

What we want people to know about our brand and story is…Love your kids and pay close attention to them, especially when they are young. Don’t outsource anything you don’t have to!!! No screens when they are young. Books. Books, and more Books. Never enough books. Fun time together doing anything is more important than people realize.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Depends on the friend and their age range. South Florida is such an amazing community. Susan and I think Miami is the hottest city in the world at this time. We’re also not big planners so a week would be tough. Maybe a day. Food is amazing and depending on age and budget determines the referral. Every top chef in the world has a restaurant here so visitors choice. We happen to like Makoto in Bal Harbour Shops
Neighborhoods is another great way to look at Miami. With sites like Wynwood, Little Haiti. Brickell, Calle Ocho, The Indian Tribes, The Everglades, and many more there are too many to mention. Susan and I are native Miamians and have seen all these neighborhoods develop.
Shopping is world class in Miami and there are many great shopping and people watching sites… Bal Harbour Shops, The Design District, A little bit South of 5th, Merrick Park, Miami WorldCenter, and more. Susan and I are more Internet shoppers.
The Architecture in Miami presents another way to view and tour the city. Art Deco on the beach, Mediterranean in the Gables, and all the interesting new construction over the last 20 years can take a day by itself. Susan and I have worked throughout the city in South Beach, Coral Gables, Brickell, Aventura, North Miami Beach, and a few more. Art Deco is our favorite style, but probably because we grew up on Miami Beach.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Susan and I are probably a little different than most in that we are at the end of our careers. PedalYard is probably our last project before retirement. If there is such a thing for us. Susan has a 40+ year career in media sales, with such publications as New York Times Magazine Group, Miami Magazine, and currently Assoicate Publisher of Ocean Drive Magazine. I’ve been in the marketing and advertising world for 45+ years and have worked on dozens of projects that are familiar to Miamians including Ocean Drive Magazine, Bal Harbour Shops, Mt. Sinai Hospital and who knows how many more…. With that said we both have mentors and idols. Hers would be Jerry Powers and Richard Roffman. Mine is Ace Parker. Sorry to say that Richard is the only one who is still alive. All had a major impact on our careers that we have been able to utilize for decades. As far a dedicating this Shout Out it really is to each other as we have grown up together over the last 40+ years.
