We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcela Bazana-Weber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcela, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I work with flowers. They come in bunches. Each of my arrangements have 6-10 different items. Each of these items much be driven to, purchased, driven home, processed (trim, remove leaves/thorns, fluff pedals), and then eventually arranged. I work for 5 hours and spend $100 before anything is made.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
All new businesses have the same responsibility, to solve a riddle or provide a solution to a known or unknown conundrum. If you can do this, you have a chance to succeed in business. It was early COVID 2020, and the world didn’t know how to get our mother’s flowers, candies, or a card for Mother’s Day! They were considered “high risk,” and therefore we were instructed to keep our distance. We opened our ONLINE-only Boutique Floral Shop 2 weeks before Mother’s Day, by offering “pre-Sale” orders for the first 50 arrangements. We purchased for 60 arrangements, making 10 peoples day and setting us up for a reputation for gorgeous one-of-a-kind florals and excellent service.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My best friend is from Rio De Janeiro, his name is Bruno, and he is my younger brother. He has never been to the USA, so the first few days will be filled with LeTub Burgers, sunset skateboard rides, and golden hour beer drinking and laughs.  I live in the event world, so I often have to squeeze in my moments when I can. If Bruno was here, I would make him work with me as he has always been my best partner.  Calle Ocho for food, rum, music, and dancing would be Bruno’s favorite stop.  I will give him a tour of the “100 or so” restaurant jobs I have had here in Miami, with the last stop at Bazaar at the SLS to see my friends and introduce him to Molecular Gastronomy.  After a night on the town, he would love a slow drive out to Key West the next morning; stopping for fresh fish, key lime pie, and to take in the scene alone the way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Local Floral teachers include the amazing teams from Simple Florals (FL), Olie Flor (FL), and East Olivia (NYC). I was fortunate enough to freelance with these industry leaders for a few years in pursuit of technique, professional, and personal training. The time with these titanic women business owners was everything I needed. They showed me what strength, mixed with skill, and motherly toughness could equal if I had the courage to take the leap. Shoutout to all the people who have taught me by challenging me; these people have been photographers, planners, local business owners, content creators, and bloggers that I have had the honor to work with during the pandemic to create content during a slow time in business. These business owners have become my sounding boards, my challengers, teachers, and biggest supporters.  My goal is to be that for younger gals who come after me.  The other nudge I received in my pursuit of being a high performer was from my husband and business partner, Jackson. We were both lost in COVID’s beginnings. He had just been liberated a career that did not love him back, but it had supported our family.  I was in transition and in need of a partner. Jackson is not your typical “floral professional,” yet he is the quintessential hospitality and sales professional. What I also love about Jackson (yet also find highly annoying at times) is his unique abilities to observe, reflect, envision, listen, communicate, and forge towards attainment. He is brave, and takes on enormous tasks without blinking. When I am scared, he is the one that makes me feel like our goals are attainable and our family will be alright. When he is caught in fear, I get to do the same for him.
