We had the good fortune of connecting with Maridalia Hernandez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maridalia, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
One piece of conventional advice I disagree with is the way our older parents, grand parents and the elders that raised us painted the picture of what we are supposed to be when we grow up. I realized a lot of our elders always want us to be lawyers, doctors, nurses, technicians. However it is rare when you see them encoring art. They have this idea in their head that it is a hobby and a person should pursue “a real solid consistent real career.” I do appreciate and thank all the ones who push us to be better people and better humans and guide us in the right path. However if more people encouraged their artistic talented youth we would have more inspired artists fighting harder for their dreams. But once again, it is also the ones who are not believed in, that go harder. Isn’t it ironic?!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am new to Florida from the New York/New Jersey area. I am excited to bring my fashion knowledge to Miami while I take in all the fun Miami has to offer and capture it to share with the world in my creative little corner of social media. I want to break into the luxury and sustainable market. My business consists of working with clients that need styling services for special occasions or a closet refresh. I will help you clear out your wardrobe, authenticate your luxury items and help you make extra cash you did not know you had sitting in your closet! I love what I do and I love giving new life to used items!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since I am new to Miami, I will have to take it home! We would eat at Corto, in Jersey City! We would go dancing at Boom Boom Room in NYC or Le Bain. We would definitely spend a day at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, and another day at the Brooklyn Museum! And lastly, we have to go to American Dream Mall in Jersey for a stroll because that mall is out of this world!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where do I start! I am so inspired by many people in my life. Including my mother, my boyfriend, my friends, family, and many people I’ve worked with throughout the years. But I mainly want to shout out two people today! My good friend whom I consider family, Leydy Dotel. She is a momma of four, a wife, a full time high school teacher and full time event planner. She teaches at day and does events and event preps on the weekends and evenings after work. Then she goes home to grade papers for her students, spend time with her kids and husband and makes it all look so easy! Not only did I see her become an amazing event planner as she learned from scratch before opening a store front and building a huge clientele, but I also was there for her while she was in college in her thirties while studying a major and minor while working overnights at Target to provide for her two older boys. She makes me feel like I can do everything! And it is so inspiring. And secondly my friend Eli Clinton who is an amazing photographer and friend whom I met when we worked together at The RealReal. He worked so hard to get his photography noticed and I was one of the many people who told him to never give up! Now I see him doing amazing things and landing amazing opportunities with Converse, working with. Doja Cat, the Met Gala, Emmy’s. And I know he’s just pinching himself during these Cinderella moments. And I love to see it! I love to see wonderful and talented people win at life. And I love all of you who inspire me everyday!
