We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn Johansen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marilyn, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My love of teaching and my love of art! My bachelor degree in education and taking art classes from dozens of international artists.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I mostly work in watercolor and compete in National and International competitions. I have been in Watercolor Artist Magazine and Splash 20. I have signature status in local and several state watercolor Societies. My series of paintings on the military has been featured at the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood international Airport since June of last year. These paintings were used in connection with the Commissioning of the New Navy Ship the USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28) ship.  My series of birds has been featured at two Cleveland Clinic locations in the past three years. Much of my art can be found at the Lauderdale by the Sea, Frame and Art Shop located at 229 Commercial Blvd. Lauderdale by the Sea, FL 33308.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would hit the tri county area on tri rail and Brightline I love history so, I’d schedule an historic tour with the Miami Historical Society.
Ride on a water taxi.
Ride around South Beach
Have lunch or dinner at Joe’s Stone Crab. And a drink at the Fountain Blue.

Fort Lauderdale Holiday Park airboat ride in the Everglades
Guitar Hotel for lunch around the pool
Hit Sawgrass Mills Mall for a day of shopping
Do downtown Fort Lauderdale for dinner or lunch
Hit Fort Lauderdale beach for a day of sun and sand!

Palm Beach, check out the Norton Art Museum and have a meal there.
Then drive down to Delray Beach for shopping and lunch on Atlantic Avenue . Make a night of it at the Arts Garage near by.
Finally end up at Cap’s Place for a sunset boat ride and dinner!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Many of my paintings depict US Military men and women. I share their stories through art! I was raised in a military family from Birth through High School.
I want to share what it means to protect our country!
