We had the good fortune of connecting with Marilyn Viruet and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marilyn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

My journey with Skin Candy Bath & Body began with a deep personal need for a skincare solution that was inclusive and gentle enough for my own sensitive skin. I’ve always had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to create something meaningful. So, the thought process was quite simple: I wanted to provide a range of natural, cruelty-free skincare products that catered to those with sensitive skin, like myself. I knew there were many others out there facing similar challenges, and I wanted to be the one to offer them a solution. Skin Candy was born out of a personal need, but it has grown into a brand that caters to the needs of many, and that’s truly rewarding.

As someone who has battled extreme allergies, I understand the frustration of not being able to find products that are safe for my skin. That’s why Skin Candy Bath & Body has always focused on creating skincare that is free from synthetic ingredients, cruelty-free, and made in small batches to ensure quality and safety. I’m not just the founder of this business; I’m also a dedicated user of our products, and I’m proud to offer them to others who need the same care and attention.

Our products are a reflection of my personal journey, and I believe that when you’re passionate about what you do, it shows in the quality and care you put into your products.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Skin Candy Bath & Body is a brand that was born out of my personal journey and need for natural, cruelty-free skincare that caters to sensitive skin. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality products made in small batches with a focus on nature’s best ingredients. We don’t compromise on our values, ensuring that our skincare is free from synthetic ingredients and cruelty-free, so our customers can feel good about what they put on their skin.

What I’m most proud of is how far we’ve come in such a competitive industry. Our dedication to quality and our genuine care for our customers have allowed us to build a loyal community around our brand. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about creating a positive impact on people’s lives.

The journey to where we are today hasn’t been easy. We’ve faced challenges like any other business, from sourcing the best ingredients to marketing in a crowded space. What has helped us overcome these challenges is our resilience and the support of our customers. Their feedback and loyalty have driven us to keep improving and evolving.

One of the key lessons I’ve learned is the power of authenticity. Staying true to our values and being transparent with our customers has helped us build trust. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

Homestead, FL, is a treasure trove of hidden gems, and I’d be thrilled to show my best friend an unforgettable week of exploring our local wonders. Here’s a little itinerary:

Day 1: We’d start with a trip to our beautiful national parks, such as Biscayne and Everglades. Connecting with nature is a must in this area. We’d explore the unique ecosystems and take in the stunning scenery.
Day 2: Right next to our little shop of goodness, we’d visit the Homestead Historic Town Hall Museum. It’s a great way to delve into the rich history of our town. Afterward, we’d unwind at Losner Park, where we can enjoy a leisurely stroll.
Day 3: It’s time for some delicious local cuisine, and Chefs on the Run is the place to go. We’d savor the flavors of the area, which offers a diverse culinary experience.
Day 4: We’d immerse ourselves in the local farming culture. Exploring farms like Roy’s in South Florida and Heritage Market is a treat. It’s a chance to get up close with farm life, pick fresh produce.

Day 5: For a serene and unique experience, we’d visit Wat Buddharangsi Buddhist Temple. The temple’s tranquility and intricate architecture are truly inspiring. We’d also take a relaxing stroll through the Redlands Koi Garden, surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

Day 6: It’s time for an evening out. We’d head to Schnebly Redland’s Winery, known for its tropical fruit wines. A wine tasting session while watching the sunset is the perfect way to unwind. Alternatively, we could opt for the sophisticated ambiance of City Hall Bistro and Martini Bar.
Day 7: To wrap up the trip, we’d have a leisurely day exploring the art and culture scene. A visit to the Seminole Theater would be ideal to enjoy a show or performance.
This itinerary offers a well-rounded experience of Homestead, combining nature, history, culinary delights, culture, and relaxation. I’m sure my best friend would leave with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for our local treasures.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support, encouragement, and inspiration from so many people and entities along the way.

First and foremost, I have to dedicate this shoutout to my amazing husband. His unwavering support, willingness to say “yes” to all of my ideas (even the crazy ones), and his belief in me have been the driving force behind Skin Candy Bath & Body. He’s my rock, my sounding board, and my biggest cheerleader, and I’m endlessly grateful for him.

My family also deserves a huge shoutout. They’ve always been there to support my entrepreneurial endeavors and lift me up when I couldn’t carry it all on my own. Their love and encouragement means the world to me.
