We had the good fortune of connecting with Mario Farrag and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mario, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think risk is a very tricky word. Most of the time “risk” can be interpreted to be a bad outcome. I believe risk is very valuable because it can lead to success and unreal greatness. Most people are scared to take risks because they are too comfortable in the position they are in and scared to get out of their comfort zone, where it can actually help expose your real potential. Even if the outcome is not what you expected, it’s a huge learning lesson to do things differently the next time. Which can lead to a successful outcome.
The risk that played in my career, was starting this business. At the time Telehealth wasn’t really a term you heard of or understood. We were looking to change a part of healthcare that not too many are accustomed to. Getting people out of their comfort zone is very challenging. At the time (before Covid) when we started this, the risk was high and the reward (based off the market) was low. However, we knew innovation is something special and it can be done. Just like Steve Jobs did with Apple, and changed the world. Risk taught me to not believe in failure, it does not exist to me, it became where failure was never an option and never will be. Which I believe that lead me to success, having patience and innovating. Where we started to change a lot in health care and higher education. From when we started to this day, our innovation has really mad a huge difference and started to get people out of their comfort zone and really adapt and enjoy this beauty of Technology and innovation.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
When someone asks me about my work, the first thought that comes to mind is “unique”. We are a Telehealth company at the core. However throughout the years we created a new market that we are proudly very strong in and making a difference. Working for so many different companies and industries really helped me build a foundation that helped me think outside the box. It taught me to always be different. I never wanted/want to be like any other Telehealth company. I knew I wanted our company to stand out and innovate to something that has not been done yet. And we have done so. It was definitely not easy at all because starting a new market requires patience, a lot of learning and focus. Getting other people and companies to adapt and accept a new market is a huge challenge. It took a lot of trial and error to get it right, and till this day we are learning more and perfecting it. Patience is the key to overcome these challenges. It teaches you to not easily get frustrated and no matter what there is always a solution. No matter the error or roadblocks there is always a solution and you really have to believe in that.
I would want the world to know, that any dream can become a reality. No matter how unrealistic it may seem in the beginning, it can be done. I don’t believe in failure, I believe everything happens at the right time when it is supposed to. Our brand is very special and will forever change Healthcare and Higher education.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of my favorite cities to visit is Tampa, Fl. I would take my friends to Bouzy, very nice French spot. Great food and drinks and good music. Then I would take them down to south Fl and go to Coconut Grove. One of my favorite food spots there is called Loretta and the Butcher, amazing Argentinian restaurant. Must get their steak sandwich and steak and eggs! And they make amazing bloody Mary’s. And one of my favorite pizza spots I always went to during college when I went to FIU, Steve’s pizza. The best pizza I have ever had in North Miami! Saturday morning definitely doing a boat day to relax and enjoy the beautiful south Florida weather.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I believe my first shoutout goes to God. Through the wisdom, patience and blessings God has granted me, it was my foundation to build off it and use it wisely in my company. Second, my brother for trusting me and believing in my decisions without question. Third, my parents for teaching me the value of hard work and how great the outcome can be when I really believe in my vision and never accept failure. Lennox Routie, for believing two young kids with a dream and a vision, believing in us and our product. Lastly, I have always looked up to Steve Jobs on how he never gave up on his vision for the future of the company when some people around him didn’t believe in it, he proved his point followed his dreams and made it into a reality. He proved he can innovate and change the world for better with technology and innovation. Till this day, his legacy and vision continue on.
