We had the good fortune of connecting with Marline C Duroseau and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marline C, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
In life, although we are all different, we have numerous things in common. Of the many similarities shared, one of the most notable is the sense of belonging, being heard, and being understood. As such, my company aims to shed light on a topic considered taboo and brings a sense of isolation and shame. Infertility.
Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples. It may not sound or look to be a lot, but it is. Imagine, that means while in the grocery store waiting in line to check out, for every 8 customers, one of them is suffering from or has experienced Infertility. As time passes, the statistics are actually getting worse. 1 in 5 women are unable to get pregnant after 1 year of trying to conceive, Those odds are definitely not ideal for those on a quest to start or expand their family.
After having endured an over 15-year fertility journey, I birthed my first book, “It’ll Happen By 30: A Relentless Journey of Faith | Delayed but not Denied.” The book chronicled my husband and I’s journey to starting and expanding our family. After having experienced the ups and downs of the entire grueling process, I felt it wasn’t enough. It wasn’t enough to just be done with the journey. I had to do more. My experience could very well be the resource someone else needs and can use to help them on their own journey to starting a family.
The release of the book and simultaneous launch of my business is centered around helping men, women, and families around the world that have been dealt the infertility, miscarriage, reproductive issues, or infant loss card have a sense of community and belonging. It is important they know they are alone in the fight. My company offers the world an outlet to express their feelings, obtain help and support, and find a safe space to endure the unpredictable path. This all is being offered by someone who is relatable and has been there.
While dealing with Infertility, I also worked on cultivating a 20+ year management, financial and leadership career in business. My company also focuses on empowering women to reach any goal and dream they aspire to accomplish, in spite of what obstacles they face. Women make up the majority of the world’s demographics. MCD Business Enterprise offers them an opportunity to be uninhibited, celebrated, empowered, and most importantly heard.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Before becoming an Entrepreneur, I worked my way up the corporate ladder and cultivated a 20+ year professional career. I am a licensed CPA, Chief Financial Officer, and Leadership/Management Executive. What sets me apart is my ability to allow everyone around me to shine. It is important to be surrounded by the best. One can only be the best with the help of an awesome team. I try to tap in to the strengths of those who work with me to allow them to perform at their utmost capacity while also cultivating efficiency and productivity for the company.
Mentoring is important to me because I am a direct product of fantastic mentoring. That, in addition to my educational credentials, work ethic, and unending ambition, are just some of the things that helped me excel professionally. It was not easy at the slightest hint of anyone’s imagination. However, having the will to keep going and not give up, really helps to keep that engine running. A lesson I learned along the way that also served as a way to overcome challenges was asking questions, yes, asking questions. The more you know, the more you grow. In the event I did something wrong and maybe did not want to even hear the bad news, I learned to ask questions. My inquisitive nature helped to not only give me answers to questions I had, but it helped to teach me theory and the reasoning behind why or what I am doing, The more you know, the more you grow!
It is important for the world to know that MCD Business Enterprise and me, Marline, believe in women. Women Matter! When people seek my services, buy my books, or request a conversation, I want them to feel validated. Because of my lived experiences and relatability factor, my brand stands to reach and help countless women believe in themselves and advocate for what they believe in or strive for personally and professionally.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of the best things to do here in South Florida that us natives do not take advantage of enough is going to the beach. People come from all over the world to experience the Miami-Dade and Broward beaches. Those of us who live here, I think, take it for granted.
So, I would plan a staycation that lands us on one of the best beaches in town. I would try out local restaurants that offer a unique yet familiar taste of Miami. The food, culture, and overall experience of the melting pot of options available here is like no other. Shopping is also a great outlet. Shopping spots can range from cute boutiques on the beach or in town, to crafty indoor and outdoor vendors at various flea markets, and upscale malls. Taking a browse through museums is always nice too. I love the movies and I think a visit would not be complete without a trip to the movies. After that fun-filled day, we’d get back to the staycation hotel location and relax. We can get comfy in silk pajamas and chat, sing, dance, and catch up.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, shoutout to the Lord! Thank you!
This Shoutout is dedicated to my parents (Barthol and Isilia)! As Haitian immigrants, they entered this country without much. Their ultimate goal was to cultivate a new life in America that allowed their children the opportunity to be educated and grow into happy, successful, and genuinely good members of society. I’m happy to say they did just that! From humble beginnings and through emulating hard work, perseverance, and determination, my parents showed me the way!
I’d also like to shoutout my mentors turned friends turned family – my HR Director (M Wood) and old boss CFO *M Fernandez). These two women had extreme faith in me and my abilities even when I had zero confidence and didn’t believe in myself. Because of their investment in and trust in me to shine, I was able to rise to every occasion and opportunity they presented me within the workplace. I have to say I am what I today because of their faith and belief in me. and investment to teach me.
Shoutout to my husband for his support in everything I set out to do! He’s been there since day 1 and that means the world that he’s in my corner.
Shoutout to my kids for keeping me grounded while also keeping me going! They are my motivation and reasons.
To all my loving siblings, family, and friends – shoutout to them too! They put up with me and that is enough.
