We had the good fortune of connecting with Marshall Steingold and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marshall, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve never been conventional. During my teenage years and through college, I held many part-time jobs. Newspaper delivery, volunteer charity work, Parks Department laborer, pet store sales, and more.

Each job helped me learn about business. What makes it work? Where is the passion for success? How does it all happen?

These elements made it natural for me to venture out on my own as soon as I could to create my own business plan and develop my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
My first job after attending college at University of Miami was working in marketing at the Greater Miami Tourist Department. I learned what drives someone to travel, how to attract them via marketing and what they want to do once they arrive at their destination.

Several hotels used maps of the area to help tourists find places to shop, eat, sightsee and find history.
But, new areas of Miami were developing that did not have these products. Namely, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, and more recently, Lincoln Road and the City of Doral.

Working with local governments, Chambers of commerce, Business Improvement Districts and community organizations has helped Miami Maps develop a comprehensive product for each city that is relevant to both visitors and residents.

Dedication to the product and the city and its businesses is paramount. The various “bumps” along the way have been due to outside forces that affected business in general: hurricanes, 2008, COVID. These were challenges to be able to garner whatever business was out there and help get things going again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In order to give my friend the best possible experience visiting Miami, I would find out their preference in dining, theatre, attractions, how adventurous they are, if they are a fan or the beach or shopping and sightseeing.

The beauty of what I do with Miami Maps is I’m able to see all that Miami has to offer. Whether it’s watching one of our sports teams, water sports, searching for history of the area – we can custom tailor for the individual.

No two people are the same. There’s enough to offer through our City Guides for any guest.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is first to my parents who encouraged me and fostered a good work ethic. But my real hero is my wife who has always had my back and understands how I’m wired. Having a great partner makes all the difference!
