Meet Mathilda Christoffersen | Product Photographer & Visual Storyteller

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mathilda Christoffersen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mathilda, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in a nice suburbia, nick-named the Whiskey Belt, just north of Copenhagen in Denmark. Both my parents were architects so design and interiors have always played a huge role in my life. My father designed theme parks around the world and we always had odd and quirky elements in our house from his work. I remember we had a bunch of slot machines in our basement. It was a mini theme park down there. Great fun! (Appropriately, those are called ‘One Armed Thieves’ in Danish). So today I tend to collect oddities as well. For example I have a 7 foot bowling pin in my living room. A lot of the oddities I have accumulated I use in my shoots, all though the bowling pin have yet to be featured.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Doing product photography I sometimes feel like I am doing arts and crafts. It is so much fun coming up with a story and bringing that to life in a set. I can obsess over very angle and every detail and that is probably what makes me stand out in my field. There are so many wrongs and just one right and I can sit and continue to turn a leaf or a stone a millimeter at a time till I finally get it right. Once I it is correct it is glaringly correct!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh this is hard because I really don’t go out much! I do always enjoy going down to Mizner park though in the early evening. There is something there for every age. We even bring our dog there, whom loves going as she gets so much attention there and she is quite fond of that. Mizner Park funnily, in my opinion, has that same family friendly atmosphere like Tivoli Gardens. I was just thinking that the other day when I was there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
That has to be my late father and Tivoli Gardens in Denmark. I grew up admiring all the things he designed and spend what feels like every day after school in that theme park. In fact my first job ever (I must have been 5 or so) was in Tivoli, as the Tivoli Princess. I was hauled around sporting a rabbit fur shawl and a crown in a gold carriage drawn by white horses and a boy-marching band. Good times that was! My father and Tivoli continue to inspire me!
