We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Browning and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
#1BEST TOILETS was started out of a need to build a business that we could wholly own, and pass down to our kids. We didn’t want to work in specialized spaces anymore that were tied to our specific intellectual property, or skillset. We wanted to start a business that was operationally predictable, allowing us to hire people to do jobs as we grow – versus us having to do everything ourselves.

Besides, this is America! Be your own boss!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
#1BEST TOILETS was born out of a perfect confluence of our skills; my own in retail operations, my fiancé in marketing and advertising, and my brother-in-law in trades. We all wanted to own something dynastic that would be inheritable for our children, while capitalize on our personal networks in events, development, etc.

We also realized that there wasn’t much representation for minorities in the space, and that the Portable Toilet industry is generally outdated from an environmental perspective – which is why our sustainability efforts are so important to our overall focus.

Breaking into any new industry is difficult, let alone in a “new” city (we moved here 4 years ago), in the middle of a pandemic, and in an industry like Portable Toilets; a very nuanced, very loyal, and very fraternal space. However, we’re focused and we’re so excited to make this the premier choice in the Miami/Dade area!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is easy for us to answer, because it happens to us every weekend!

We have a LOT of friends in the area, all with small businesses, so we try and support each of them unconditionally.

• Andrew for clothes
• Lock and Load, to blow off some steam
• Tropezon for some of the best food on the beach
• Melinda’s for cocktails
• Sweet Liberty for drinks and late night food
• E11even for a wild time

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This list is long! I’ll try my best to keep it quick…

Our investors, we love you! This wouldn’t be possible without you. You know who you are 😉

Alyssa Ruotolo, our first and most loyal customer. She is our Queen.

Our colleagues at FriendlyJohn, Portapotty2Go, and The Log House. Our local business network will be the reason why family businesses like ours will prevail in the long run.

My partners, Zach, Surinder and Alex – we’re killing it!
