We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexandra Arata and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued a creative career because I had no choice! My brain somehow developed the right and left sides simultaneously, I cannot create without thinking and I cannot think without creativity. My eyes are constantly drawn to look for beauty, symmetry, colors and shapes. But my mind is constantly analyzing business opportunities around me. To be an entrepreneur you must be creative, no matter what business you are in. You must find new ways, break the mold, take risks, experiment, and forget the fear of failure. Aren’t all these characteristics of artists as well? There is a pleasure in being the creator of your decisions, in being able to determine the path of your life that only entrepreneurs can feel. In my opinion, entrepreneurship and creativity are totally in sync!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I study the impact that colors produce in our lives, how they can change our mood, affect our psychology, and even produce a physical reaction. I am always experimenting with combinations of shapes and color that can make you feel happy. If people smile while seeing my art, I have accomplished my goal! I want the world to know that nothing comes easy, but my motto is never give up!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would invite my friend to come over the first week in December, when Art Basel happens. The city gets transformed with the energy of the artists, art collectors, art galleries and art lovers. The traffic gets certainly crazy, but this is a memorable experience. During the day I would take them to stroll thought the art fairs, and I will take them to a nice LatinAmerican restaurant, finalizing the night at a great dancing club!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father was my mentor in many areas of my life, and he instilled in my the entrepreneurial spirit. He was a doctor because this is what a son of immigrant was supposed to become, but he loved building houses and he did that on the side. I started to work with him since I was very young, and he showed me how to run a small business. He past when I was only 23, but his words will live with me forever!
