We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan McFerran and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always loved dance & public speaking / inspiring others to move in celebration of themselves and their bodies. Growing up, it was my dream to be a professional dancer. After experiencing issues with comparison and body image and constant hustle to stand out at an audition and get “the part” that hundreds of people audition for- I decided I wanted to start my own business where there are no auditions, everyone can stand in their own spotlight, dance in a free & open space without pressure, and support one another through community.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My CitySweat classes serve as a celebration rather than a workout, and when clients start to view movement as a celebration of self, they gain confidence, they stick to smaller & more consistent goals, they develop a unique light that shines so bright to others around them.
Movement is the number one solution to releasing fear and anxiety. I don’t believe in transformation photos because I truly believe that change comes from the inside out- we call it glisten. When you’re glistening, you are empowered, you are confident in you, you want
To share your energy with the world and you choose only to move because it feels so good in your body.
My classes are for both dancers and non dancers. I have trained clients that have never worked out before and also professional Broadway dancers. We all come together to dance and
Celebrate in under 40 mins find the feeling of glisten, then carry it with us through the rest of our day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
THesis Hotel in Coral Gables is amazing! They hosted my CitySweat class in April and it was a blast! The service, food and drinks is awesome, and the location is cute & quiet. Perfect for a staycation!!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to Eleone Dance Theatre and my college dance mentor, Dara Meredith. She is the most passionate, thoughtful, loving and hard working person I know and I am so grateful to have grown into myself while training with her in my college years.
