Meet Melanie Borjas | Tattoo Artist & Fashion Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Borjas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
For me, the most important factor has always been creating from the heart. Everything I do carries a piece of my soul. I don’t just make designs; I create moments, emotions and pieces that people carry with them forever.
I believe people feel that. They connect with the intention behind the lines, the colors, the details. There’s poetry in the process… in listening to someone’s story and turning it into something they can wear on their skin or in their heart.
My brand grew because it’s real. It’s imperfect, evolving, but always honest. I don’t create to impress…I create to express, to heal, to celebrate, to remember. That emotional depth is the thread that weaves everything I do.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art goes beyond ink…I specialize in American Traditional, Neotraditional, and Microrealism, blending timeless technique with meaningful storytelling.
The journey hasn’t been easy… I’ve faced physical and emotional challenges, but each one made me stronger and more connected to my purpose. What I want people to know is that every piece I create carries intention. It’s not just a tattoo, it’s a story meant to last forever.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit, we’d start our mornings with yoga facing the ocean, grounding ourselves with the rhythm of the waves at the Beach. Breakfast would be simple…. maybe something fresh just enjoying the breeze. We’d wander through the Design District, soaking up inspiration, and later catch the golden hour at South Pointe. At night, we’d dance to vinyl grooves at Dante’s HiFi and maybe end up at Lagniappe with a glass of wine and some live music under the string lights. One day would be all about sailing to Key Biscayne, letting the salt and sun recharge us. And of course, I’d tattoo them… something to carry the magic of this trip on their skin.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe so much of my journey to the people around me.
My family has been my foundation…their love and support have carried me through everything. I’m also deeply grateful to my clients, who trust me with their stories and let me turn them into art. And to every artist who inspired me… their work reminded me that creativity can be healing, raw, and powerful. All of them are part of the reason I keep creating.
