We had the good fortune of connecting with Melencia Lattimore and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melencia, what do you want your legacy to be?
Being an artist and entrepreneur has given me purpose, and a platform to preach the values that are most important to me; authenticity, uniqueness, and self-love. Recently, I’ve felt even more pulled to spread awareness on the fact that these values are not just about self. Being dedicated to these values not only serves you, but the people around you. The way you treat yourself plays a direct role in the way you treat others, and how you view the world.
I hope that by living in my truth, and doing what I love, people are inspired to live in their truth, and do what they love.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MELENCIA JEWELS is an online jewelry brand that launched in September, 2020. What I am most proud of and excited about is how I’ve been able to use my brand to promote authenticity, uniqueness, and self-love. “Do what you love, because you love it” is the message that I want others to take with them. I would not be where I am today if it wasn’t for the support from the people around me. Every opportunity that was presented to me has come from word of mouth, and for that I am so grateful! Sometimes I do have those days where I feel unmotivated, and I’m lucky to have friends that hold me accountable and inspire me to keep going. Along the way, I’ve learned the importance of patience. In the age of social media and going viral, it gets difficult to not feel discouraged because you don’t see immediate results. At the end of the day, just having one person tell me that myself or my brand has inspired them in some way, reminds me that I’m doing something right.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Alright so boom! My bestie is in town! We’d have dinner at Finka Table and Tap. For brunch I’d check out Victory Miami— I’ve been there for dinner and the vibes were so amazing, so I’d want to go back and check out their brunch. Later that day, we’d go to the beach, but not South Beach. We’d go to either South Pointe or Crandon park for a chill vibe. At night, I’d take them to the rooftop at The Citadel for drinks and a bite to eat. In the afternoon one day, we’d explore Museum park, and visit Perez art museum and the Frost museum. Another day, we’d go to Candleland to make our own candles! I’ve been wanting to go there for the longest. One of these days would be a boat day of course. For shopping, we’d go to my favorite mall, Aventura, but I would also want to show them Brickell City Centre.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to every art teacher I’ve had since grade school. A shoutout to every person who has recommended, liked, shared, or reposted my content. A shoutout to all my customers. A shoutout to all my friends who believe in me, encourage me, and support me in everything I do. A huge shoutout to my family for providing me with a healthy environment, and their full support in all of my creative endeavors. Lastly, shoutout to God above all. I am blessed!
